So my little lady had kittens 2 days ago. Her one and going to be only litter that was an unplanned accident, but we won't let the kittens know that. ;)

I don't have a scale at home so I am unsure of weights, but so far 2 days out they already look bigger and she lays with them nursing all day/night long. I've never done kittens. My friend had and talked me thru any questions I had. All together I thought it was a rather quick experience.

She started contracting and lost her mucus plague around 2 pm. Water broke around 4:30. First kitten born at 6:30. Second at 6:55. Third at 7. Fourth at 7:10. She cleaned them but wouldn't do anything about their cords or placentas. I did end up tying them off with little bits of yarn I had close by then pinching/cutting them off. About 7:30 the fifth one came out followed almost immediately by the sixth. That last one however the placenta didn't want to come out with it. I took the other 5 and wrapped them snug and sleeping aside and left her with just little number 6 trying to stretch itself to a nipped while still leashed inside of her. After about 10 minutes she pushed the placenta out and actually finally ate one! She did bite thru the cord for #5, as 6 was coming out. So yes 4 of the kittens will have little bits of green yarn on them in the pics.

Her "I'm about to lose my mucus plug in your lap" look.

Daddy right before he ran and hid in the other room.

"Hee hee whooo, hee hee whooo"

She got so tuckered out my poor girl. Almost done though!

Finally done!

The three blind mice! #'s 1, 4, and 5.

Welcome aboard TCS!

Poor tuckered out mommy kitty. Having 6 kittens is hard work! The kittens look cute! Are they all latching and nursing well?

Great photos!  What a beautiful family.

Has dad been neutered already?  You'll want to be careful if it was recent.  Males can remain fertile for up to a month, and moms can get pregnant within a week of delivery.  Wouldn't want any overlap there!

And with six, you are definitely going to have a runt or two.  Is there any way to get a small scale?

They are. I've ordered a small kitchen scale from amazon, but it's going to be a couple days before it gets here. This afternoon was the longest she's been away from them. She went and laid on the kitchen floor for about an hour while they slept. Other than that she only leaves the box to eat/drink/toilet.

The local petco gets their stock in Monday evening. When I checked Friday they had no kitten formula. I had wanted to keep some on hand just in case. I really wish we had more/better pet stores around here. -_-

Since her mom is half siamese and the dad's mom was a snowshoe mix my friend and I are both anxiously waiting to see if they little white ones darken up any. Dad did have an all white in his litter as well as two that looked like their mom, then him and his other orange brother, and a grey tabby. Mom's litter was only 4, 3 tabbies and 1 siamese.

Would you recommend waiting until the kittens are done nursing before scheduling mom to get spayed, or could I get it scheduled now for early August after the kittens hit 8 weeks? It's a month wait for the earliest appts around here it seems. Dad will already be neutered way before then, but I just cannot do this again. This litter shouldn't have happened as is so I will not risk another one... I just don't want to rush and force the babies to fully wean if they don't want to.

Little number 6 appears to be the runt. Dad has his appt to get neutered already, they just take for freaking ever to do anything around here. I'm going to be calling a vet further away tomorrow morning to see if I can just take him down there and get it done sooner. it's twice as for away but just down the street from my parent's house so perfect time for a visit right? I'm hoping they can get him in sooner than 3 weeks.

Mom can be spayed when the babies are 8 weeks old.  She will probably go back to nursing them after her surgery, so no need to rush any weaning.

You'll just need to keep mom and dad completely separated until they are both fixed.  It's great that you're being so responsible, but as mentioned above, there is no guarantee that mom won't get pregnant at any point or that dad won't be fertile.  It's not worth the risk.  Up to you if you want to let them interact while you supervise.

No matter what she will be getting spayed come August.. I had to move in with my parents for a month. My 8 month old nephew was staying with them while my sister dealt with adjusting her bipolar meds and my dad is still recovering from back surgery. I moved an hour away to be a live in nanny while still working full time nights in my town. Nephew went home and I came home to a round little cat. The vet here takes a month to schedule appts for altering so by the time I would've gotten her in she would've been about to pop anyways.

My boy has had his appt scheduled for almost 2 weeks already. I need a new vet -_- It should not take at least a month to get a cat in to get fixed.

Are you sure he's the dad?  I would think there would be at least one orange kitten.  I did see a couple who look like torties with some orange on their heads.

Make sure all the kittens nurse.  Put the smaller ones to nipples when the larger ones are asleep so they can get some extra nursing time without getting pushed off.

Can you trim the yarn on the kittens?  I'm worried mom might swallow it.  Unless it just looks longer in the photos.

Re the vet, this is kitten season.  Everyone is realizing they should have speutered their pet by now and are finally getting it done.  I doubt your the only person in town with an unplanned litter.

Mom has never been outside. 2 and 3 both have orange in em for sure. 3 was almost black when she came out, now she starts almost black at her head and gets lighter as she goes down her body.

Tried to snag her to take a pic and woke them all up so they are nursing again.

Looking at kitten junk I am very certain 2 and 3 are girls and that 5 and 6 are boys. Athens other 2 white ones look like they could be girls, but not 100% certain.

used nail clippers and trimmed up the cords.

none of the others have little hormone swollen sacks XD

I knownin human babies the first few days after birth the genitals are a bit swollen or engorged because of how full of mommy hormones they have been. Not sure if its the same in cats, but 5 and 6 are the only two with genitals like that.

FOUND IT!!!  HEY, @HelloMissKitty, WE GOT KITTEN TAILS!!!

How precious are these little guys and gals?  I'm kinda thinking that #3 may be a very dark tortie...wait...I'm getting ahead of myself...let me go gaze upon the kitten fannies and see if #6 is girl or boy...I'll be back...Yep.  I think #3 is a dark tortie or maybe a torbie, but I can't tell from the one picture very well.  It will be more apparent when they're good and dry and all fluffy.

Called our normal vet today and got daddy's appt moved up to next week! Ah! That's a relief!

While I was at work last night momma decided to move the family. Had to play marco polo with her this morning to find them. They were in the bookshelf lol. Made her up another box next to the bookshelf and moved them in there. We'll see if she decides to move them again when I get home from work tomorrow morning.

They seem like they've gotten so big in just 3 days!

when number 3 was born she was so dark I thought she was black. She obviously is not black.

I just love his little face. Little Boston terrier kitten!

I feel like the white ones' ears are all starting to look a tiny hint darker... Or at least one ear in this one's case.

It's great that you were able to move dad's surgery up! How's he doing with being separated with mom and babies for now?

Moms do tend to like moving their babies, though once they find a spot they are comfortable with, they'll stay there for awhile. Sweet looking family, and good news about dad! [emoji]128522[/emoji]
