Hi, my name is Christie and I am looking for some advice about my 6yo cat, Caspian. A week ago he started puking and couldn't keep anything down, not even water. Took him to the ER vet and x-rays only showed an inflamed stomach. They gave him some fluids and anti-nausea meds. He went right for his food bowl when we got home but he got sick soon after from the anesthesia (he gets kinda feral when he gets scared so they have to gas him in order to exam him). Blood work was all normal except for a slightly low white blood cell count. By Friday he still wasn't eating or drinking so they did an endoscopy and took some biopsies. When we got home that night he went to his food bowl a few times and did eat a little bit. He was able to keep that down. They sent me home with some anti-nausea meds and prednisone for the inflammation in his stomach.

Now it is Sunday and he has returned to not eating or drinking, not even when I give him the anti-nausea meds. I have to force a little soft food down so I can give the prednisone. He won't eat anything; soft foods, tuna, etc. I can't keep taking him in to get fluids because they have to gas him every time and this is adding up. I've already spent $2200 and I am at my limit on funds.

Anybody ever have this issue or have any ideas?? Please help

My kitty would be like this with IBD flares but there are other conditions that can cause similar symptoms.  When will the biopsy results be back?  What is the dose of prednisolone he is taking.  If it is an IBD flare I have found from here that many vets go much lower with the steroid dose then what worked for my kitty.

Biopsy results won't be back until late in the week but I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and ask if they can call the lab to expedite the results. He has eaten a few bites of food twice today now and is keeping it down so this is progress. The endoscopy showed just an inflamed stomach so the vet is thinking it could be an inflammatory GI issue or a possible food allergy. The ER vet thinks it could be a possible virus due to his white count being low. He was put on 5mg of prednisone so a mild dose. He isn't lethargic at all and is acting like a normal non-sick cat so the vets are not too worried. I'm hoping we are on the mend since he is keeping food down right now. He still really isn't drinking water but I can give him an ml or so every couple hours so he is getting water at least.
