My new kitten, Tony, has been with me since Feb. 18th. He's approx. 6 months old. We got him fron the local shelter along with my other Kitten, Ziva. Tony struggled with a severe respiratory infection before and after he arrived home along with roundworms. The other night, while cleaning the boxes, Tony used one of the boxes to urinate. I noticed a hint of red in the urine clump before he covered it. When he was done, I scooped the clump and broke it apart (Yes, I had gloves) and inside was a small clear jelly like substance with a blob of blood inside. I've never seen this before and I've had cats for years. I did a little homework online and it sounds like it could be due to a bladder infection. He doesn't seem to be in any pain and when he goes, it doesn't seem to be a lot. I have a call into his vet for a check up just to be safe, but I was wondering if anyone has seen or know a more about the jelly stuff?

I agree with you that it sounds like a bladder infection. It will need to be treated with medicine, so it's good you have already called for an appointment with the vet. What you found sounds like mucus of some sort. I imagine it will not clear up by itself, and Tony will begin feeling bad soon. I had a cat who had lifeling bladder and urinery tract infections. She would get blood in her pee.

In the meantime, you might want to mix a sprinkle of probiotics into his wet food to help the flora in his system.

Poor little guy has had a rough start. Thank you for giving him such great care! Please let me know what the vet says.
