So I have a 9 week old kitten. Not sure what breed (see photo attached) . She's had diarrhea for a few days now. Today I came home and there was some blood not much but enough to tell it was blood. Is the food I'm feeding her causing this ? I asked a few of my friends what food to buy and they said no to friskies and fancy feast . They said it was like crack for cats lol. So I went with special kitty. Is the sudden change from moms milk to wet food the reason? How can stop this? She normal . Very playful , wants attention and is biting my thumbs as I type this . Any help would be great along with food suggestions and good ways to take care of her while she's young.

Can you take her to a vet? My guess is that it's the sudden transition, but also that she also needs to be dewormed.

The blood is from the irritation of diarrhea. You can put a tiny dab of A&D diaper ointment on her bum if she's sore.

I use Fancy Feast Classic pate flavor wet food, and have for more than 20 years, with no ill effects. Meat is the first ingredient.

I believe the diarrhea is from the Special Kitty wet food. I would not feed that brand to any cat ever. It is a generic, rock bottom cheap cat food carried by Walmart that is full of mystery ingredients. Please switch brands! It may take a day or two, but I think you'll see an improvement in the stool.

If you'd like, you could feed Gerber turkey or chicken baby food for a couple of days to clear the diarrhea before switching foods.

Diarrhea is serious business in kittens. It can cause dehydration very quickly. A vet check is recommended if the situation does not improve or gets worse.

You can give plain pedialyte to help with dehydration until the stool is back to normal too.  Hope she's feeling better soon!

Let me know how she's doing in the next day or two please. I hope you are also feeding kitten chow between wet food meals. Kittens need both. The wet food meals should be 4 times a day, with dry kibble and water available 24/7. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Yes I usually leave her kibble out with water for her to eat it when she wants. The wet food I'll put out only enough for the sitting. But now I'll be changing her food.

Changing her food is the way to go. The baby food would give her system a rest in between as it's easy to digest. Either way, let me know how it goes.

Is there something you are concerned about with your kittens?

We know that one of your kittens is having diarrhea and needs to see a vet. What's up?

One of them cry's alot. Stands by the food and doesn't eat. Is somewhat lethargic it does run around just a little though. I need to take it to the vet along with my other one. But what could be wrong with him? Worried he's sick or something.

It may be the same issue you are having with your other kitten. They may have an infection. Both need to see the vet first thing in the morning. Can you do that?

Did you get baby food or Fancy Feast yet? Have you syringed pedialyte yet?

I can try as where I live there will be a tropical and it's not safe to really go out. I did buy the fancy feast they seem to like it. I couldn't find pedialyte at Walmart and I couldn't do anywhere else cause they bad weather.

Oh! We are neighbors. I'm in St. Petersburg. We've had a lot of rain today, and it's expected to continue tomorrow. We were under a tropical storm warning earlier today.

We'll have to check the forecast, but hopefully you can get out to the vet tomorrow with these two kittens. I'm worried about them. Diarrhea and not eating are bad signs in kittens this young. I think they need medicine.

Oh wow didn't expect you that close. But yes the rain has been the same here. Expected to continue tomorrow all day as well. I hope to get them to the vet. But I do think it's the food. My sister also has a kitten from the same litter and it had dry food instead of
wet food and it didn't have diarrhea. Let's hope this rain stops and the kittens get better.

If it's just the food, then they should get better on the Fancy Feast. Let's see how they are doing tomorrow.

no diarrhea today. They're both eating plenty and playing around. Will get them to the vet by the end of the week
