I have the most beautiful cat named pablo. My husband got his mother, Minaj an orange tabby, for me as a present when she was 3 months old. When she first got pregnant and had her first litter they were all perfect. We eventually found them all good homes when they were ready, except for one long haired, multi-colored beauty.

He is perfectly healthy and happy and your normal hyperactive cat. Although he only likes the touch and affection from me and my husband he is far from shy. Yet his meow is quite unusual. It sound like he is trying to whisper and its raspy sounding but when he is in heat or something his meows are quite loud and somewhat normal. I just always wondered why that is and he is okay and its not something i should continue to look after! Much help needed! [emoji]128568[/emoji]

Hi @CATalinaYoung  Welcome to The Cat Site.

I guess Pablo is a boy? Male cats don't have heat cycles. If he hasn't been neutered he's going to be able to mate at any time. If he makes a lot of noise at certain times it's probably because he can smell a female cat in the area or there is another tom cat invading his territory.

It's quite normal for cats to make a wide range of sounds depending on the situation. There is nothing strange about him making more whispery sounds when he is seeking affection from you and yelling when he is communicating with another cat.

By the way, are you planning to have him neutered? Male cats tend to live longer and be a lot healthier if they've been fixed.

yes i am planning to get him neutered but his meow in general, not just when in heat, is very raspy and its like he is struggling to meow almost... its been like this since he was born.

You could ask your vet to check his throat while he is being neutered, but I really don't think it is any cause for concern. One or two of my cats hardly make any noise at all when they meow. It's like the whisper you are describing.
