Until last week, Seaside Heights, NJ had a model TNR program run by a self-funded group called Seaside Heights Animal Welfare Organization.  The Mayor, Tony Vaz, abruptly ended the program last week and stripped the group of their authority to care for the cats.  They town has no plan to feed the colonies and is considering relocating the colonies to a strip of land in between the bay and a busy highway.  There is no sane reason for these actions.  Please sign the petition below and contact the Mayor, Tony Vaz ([email protected]) and the borough adminstrator, Chris Vaz ([email protected]) to let them know their actions will have a negative impact on the quality of life for residents of Seaside Heights and will be a death sentence for the cats.

Is this the case where PETA "stepped in" and made a mess of things?

I am very angry that PETA is anti-TNR, and would rather kill cats than allow them to live out their lives neutered and supported by TNR colony keepers/feeders/caretakers.  PETA has no business in this matter, and their "position" on this matter is asinine.  I live in a big city, where TNR has worked.  PETA is EVIL, if they think a cat is better off dead than living a cat's life with the support of humans.

Yes, recently PETA stepped in with their unsolicited advice.  It's just distracting each side from finding a way to work together.  We need to keep pressure on the Mayor and Borough Administrator to work with the local 501C that has been feeding and doing TNR for the past 3 years in Seaside.  They are funded by grants and donations.  The town is crazy to turn away their expertise and knowledge of the local cat community because they have a personality conflict with one of the group's leaders.

Check out the Seaside Heights Animal Welfare Organization Facebook page to keep up with the latest news.
