My aunt found a newborn kitten in her neighbors drive way and at that point his eyes were closed.a few days ago while I was feeding him I was giving him his milk and some of it got around his eye I cleaned it as well as I could but not well enough his eye got infected and swollen with white gooey discharge. My aunt cleaned his eye regularly the swelling went down the discharge stopped but now his eye opened but the eye that was infected won't open. We're taking him to the vet tomorrow but will there be permanent damage to his eye now ? I feel horrible I didn't clean his eye as well as I should of scared of causing more damage because his eyes hadn't opened yet at that point and I did damage anyway he got a eye infection [emoji]128532[/emoji]

Don't be too alarmed, a lot of kittens get eye infections. It is important to see a vet and get the proper eye medication to treat it though, and make sure to do the full course of antibiotic eye drops, so the infection is completely taken care of.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of milk are you feeding him? Please be aware that cows milk is not suitable for cats, and there are other types of milk, even powdered milk available at your vets office that will meet the nutritional needs of the kitten much more closely. If you know anyone with a recent litter, adding a kitten often is easy, and the mother cats normally accept a new kitten and will care for them much better than we bi-peds ever could. *Adding best not to pry the eye open at all sometimes one will just take longer than the other even when there is no infection.

Any pictures of the baby?
