We have a cat that has started to vomit up his food on a regular basis.  We decided to change up his diet and feed wet food exclusively to see if that might be the issue, that worked for about a week before more vomit this morning.  The cat is refusing to eat a fair number of things (fish/turkey based wet food - only eats chicken wet food) but goes nuts for things that we don't give him (like diary which is a guaranteed regurgitation) and things he shouldn't be having on a regular basis (like canned tuna).  He's also lost a noticeable amount of weight.

Is there a diet we could try that might be easier on him?  The next step after trying an easier diet is the vet, we're just exhausting our options before that, since it's likely close to $500 just for the initial set of diagnostic tests (blood, urine, fecal, x-ray, etc)

I would go ahead and take your kitty to the vet.  I know it is expensive but chronic vomiting after trying diet changes and weight loss should be checked out.  The most obvious guess that I would make is IBD but other possibilities should be ruled out.

That's what I'd like to rule out before going to the vet.  If it's just an IB issue then diet change maybe all that's required which is a heck of lot cheaper... also we've never been able to get this cat to the vet.  The last time we tried it took 20mins to get him in the carrier then we found out he knows how to break out of carriers at will.  It took 2 months to regain his trust after that episode lol

IBD is actually difficult to diagnose and is often a diagnosis of elimination.  The only way to get a definite diagnosis is with a surgical biopsy and sometimes that fails to give a definite diagnosis.  Most of us that say we have a kitty with IBD actually have a kitty with probable IBD.  I never did figure out the trigger or a diet that worked for my IBD kitty, he is on a small daily dose of a steroid.

True.  I've been doing a fair amount of research on it and I'm going to try a Z/D diet first and then if that doesn't work it's off to the vet.
