Hello everyone!

I adopted a cat only two months ago. She was sterilised and everything and she didn't have any issue..until now.

Last evening she threw up a bit. I thought it was just because she ate too fast or something like that and I didn't pay much attention to it. I cleaned and that was it.
Today, during my lunch break, I had to go home. There was vomit in several places of the house and I found some worms (after some online search, I realised they're ringworms). I already called the vet and he told me to give her Drontal, which I did.
Hopefully my little follow will be fine in two days.

My question now is: should I also go and buy something for the humans living in the house?
I mean, as a prophylactic measure?

This is so weird. I have no idea how she got infected... She has no outdoors access and I only give her good quality food...

thank you for your help!

I believe you call the med "Droncit" in the US.

Haha... just be glad it's not ringworm! Roundworms are much easier to get rid of!! I don't know how to change the title. Maybe a mod can help you. You could ask a mod to delete this thread and you could start a new one too.

My cat had worms and parasites when I got her, about the same time you got your new cat. I worried the same as you. I probably didn't need to because I washed my hands and cleaned out her litter box fully after treatment but I bought diatomaceous earth to try for myself. But I only did it because searching the internet made me wonder if I had unwanted travelers anyway from being out of the country a couple times. Plus D.E. is supposed to have other benefits. You can certainly look into it. They say it's safe for pets too for a natural dewormer. Pumpkin seeds are supposed to help and neem? oil.

So if you are worried you could always try adding a few natural things to your diet but I am sure you're fine if you have been washing your hands afterward.

I forgot to add that my foster kittens and their mom just got treated for roundworms last weekend so they have/had ringworm and roundworms haha... but I wasn't worried because I feel like I'm just short of hazmat from the ringworm.

Thank you for your reply! :)

Arrived home and there was no more vomiting...that's a good sign, I think. :)

She's ok, like nothing happened. Tomorrow we'll have pill #2. Hopefully this will solve the problem and lady Pantof will be back to normal :)

Asked at a pharmacy what they thought about us, humans sharing the house with an infected cat, taking something just to prevent. They said there's no need. As we don't have toddlers playing on the floor and so on, it should be fine.

Thank you for this forum and site, guys! It helped me get a bit calmer.

I'm glad she is feeling better and you are too :)

My foster kittens were pooing normally after three doses of dewormer so I am sure she will be better in no time.

I'm new to this site too and it has helped me calm down about the ringworm etc haha so I know how you feel! We are in good company.

I believe you call the med "Droncit" in the US.
No, Drontal and Droncit are two different products.

Drontal contains both praziquantel to kill tapeworms and pyrantel pamoate to kill roundworms and hookworms, so it is a full-spectrum dewormer.

Droncit is only the praziquantel to kill tapeworms.

You won't get round worms unless you eat kitty poop, s handwashing is all that's needed.  You won't get tapeworm unless you eat an infected flea.  Even then, it may not grow in you.

Thank you for your reply.

You're right. I later saw that they make 2 different products.

My lady seems be to doing fine. And her appetite is back to normal.
