Hello, I have a lovely female Siamese Lynx cat, which about five or more weeks gave birth to two beautiful kittens. She is an outdoor cat, but only goes in my garden and the garden of the appartment next to me, which is huge. Anyways, about two days ago, at 19:00 , my cat disappeared. She was definitely not near the area as I could not hear the bell from her collar. I asked a member of my town's Animal Welfare and he told me the cat had 100% left to mate, which is quite a possible option, but unfortunately I did not get to ask him anything else as he was in a hurry. So, I'd like to have the following questions answered. Do you think my cat is going to return home by herself?(and propably pregnat) If so how long can it take her to do so? How far will she roam ?And, is placing leaflets a waste of time as she most likely left by her will?

Sorry if I have overloaded you with questions, but I feel worried about the cat. Although, she is propably safe as there are not dangerous animals in my area, the welfare places cat food in most streets in my area and there are not really any roads that  people drive fast.

Hi @Keitnin46  Welcome to The Cat Site.

If the kittens are five weeks old now it's very possible that your cat is on heat again and has gone to find a mate. I hope that is what has happened to her and she hasn't been hurt in any way. If she has just gone to mate she should return home soon.

Do you still have all of the kittens? Are they weaned yet? They will need a lot of care with their mother gone. They will need to be fed kitten food and KMR to make sure they get all the nutrition they need. I suggest you start a thread in our Pregnant Cats and Kitten's Forum if you have any questions about the kittens.

http://www.thecatsite.com/f/36/pregnant-cats-and-kitten-care

Are you able to afford a second litter of kittens? They will need to be vaccinated, fed and re-homed the same as the first litter will be. If you aren't able to take full responsibility for more kittens it would be better to have your cat spayed as soon as she comes home. A spay-abort won't be any more complicated than a straight forward spay at this stage. You will need to get your cat spayed as soon as you can even if you allow her to have a second litter or she will keep producing more and more kittens.

It's very unwise to let an un-spayed cat outside unsupervised. Mating is quite tough on female cats. She risks being seriously injured by the male cats and is being exposed to life threatening diseases every time she comes into contact with another cat.

I highly recommend that you take your cat to the vet as soon as she comes home before she is allowed to come into contact with her kittens and have her blood tested for Feline AIDS and Feline Leukemia as well as treated for fleas, worms and ear mites. I'm sorry to have to say this, but you really have put her at serious risk by allowing her to go outside.

Here are a few articles to read.

Good luck. I hope she comes home safely to you. It's obvious that you love your cat but you need to be more careful about her well being.

Please keep us posted.

I am aware of the dangerous of excesive birth in cat and there's no way i'd let my cat roam around unneutered. I was just waiting for about one or two more weeks to pass so we would definitely know the kittens had stopped weaning.  About the kittens now, they seem to be fine, I've been feeding them Dry Kitten food and for the most part they have eaten it.  Thank you for your interest, I'll keep you up if any progress happens.

What are the kittens eating? They must have kitten formula and wet cat food to survive. How are they doing?

If they are not ready to eat they need to be bottle fed with kitten formula.

good they have began to eat on their own.  Use also WET cat food, its usually better - and feels more natural for such young ones.

You can supplement with some goat milk or kmr - formula too, to be sure they gets enough.

Use non clumping litter!  If they taste on the litter, you dont want them to have clumping litter inside them...  Non clumping is less dangerous.

If she is a prettie and a good look alike of a siamese, its fully possible she got abducted.   but the most probable she got in heat again, and went away to seek a tom.

Thereby, its a yes to all your questions.   With any luck and if God so wants, she will return in a few days. But we cant know exactly when.  If nothing bad happened to her.   Its not unusual they got hit by cars in these situation.  Or happen in other bad situations when they are in unfamiliar territory.   And sometimes they are helped and taken care of by friendly people, whom do see a cat apparently outside her own territory...

So yes, some leaflets and messages on the message boards in your neighbourhood is a very good idea.   :)

And please do spay her immediately when she returns.  That is the easiest and best way out.

Hello, thank you everyone for your great advice. I started feeding the kittens wet food and goat milk. I've placed leaflets in the streets, however i still haven't gotten any response. But uhm, I've got another question, which did not come to my mind when i posted this post. Why didn't the cat go to the uneutered male cat which is in the next garden, but got far away?((if she left to mate)). Thank you once again.

She could have been looking to go somewhere else to mate, another male perhaps, it's also possible she was trying to find a far away spot to move her kittens, and got picked up in the process. Keep in contact with local shelters and rescues. If she is chipped they will notify you, and if she isn't and you get her back, then I'd go and get her chipped at the shelter so it's easier to find you if she is lost again.

She could have wondered too far away and got lost, someone could have taken her in thinking she was a stray, or taken her in thinking she was lost and is waiting to see "lost" papers to contact, it's up in the air about where she is, there are so many possibilities, but all we can do is hope she is warm, fed, and safe.

Let's just hope she is found or returns on her own. In the meantime, keep feeding and taking care of those babies!

Have you put any flyers out around your neighborhood with her picture on them and your contact information? It would help if someone has her.

Otherwise, if she's just off mating and nothing bad has happened, she'll probably be back when her heat cycle finishes.

It could be that she went further than usual while looking for a mate, or that she got chased and is now in an unfamiliar area. Are there a lot of feral cats in your town? Un-spayed female cats are very territorial, so if she wandered too close to another girls patch she may have been chased off.

You said that people leave food out for cats in your town. She may eventually make her way to one of these feeding stations. Could you make some large Lost Cat posters to put up near the places other cats get fed?

I found the kind of posters that got the most attention were ones that said;

Reward.

For any information

leading to the recovery of (cat's name)

Then a picture of your cat and your phone number. You don't have to state how much the reward is, you can decide how much when you find your cat.

I'm glad to hear the kittens are eating. Hope your girl comes home soon.

@Norahan Thanks for your advice,  I've placed a couple large posts.

@sarthur2 Yes, I've already done that.

I haven't received any response yet, so all I can do now is wait. Thank you for your suggestions.

Hey, I know this thread is one month old but I'd like to give an update since I have a question. So, yesterday I discovered three left over fliers and since all the other fliers have been removed by the rain I decided to go and post them on cellphone poles  really close to my house., although I was certain that I won't get any information about my cat any time soon. Well, It turns out I was wrong. Today I received a phonecall by a woman who feeds the stray cat and she said a cat which looked similar to mine was coming to her yard and ate. She mentioned the cat's characteristics which were similar to my cat's, but she said she was not wearing a collar and thinks it might be a boy.(The cat does not approach her at all.) Anyways, that phonecall gave me a little hope and I'm going to start searching the area tonight and hopefully the cat will appear, but I'd like to know what time is the best to search? Oh and how should I approach the cat if I see her?

That is hopeful news!

I think you should ask the woman what time she feeds them and what time she normally sees this cat, then go from there. If it's your cat, she might answer to her name.

If it is your cat, she's very likely pregnant again after all this time.

How are her kittens? Do you still have them?

I hope it is your cat.

I agree with Sarthur, go when the cats usually get fed and be prepared to wait around for a while. I've had a few of my cats go missing for a month or more and they don't always recognise you right away. You sometimes have to sit and talk to them until they are sure of who you are. You could try putting something the kittens have been sleeping on in the carrier in case she recognises their scent.

Good luck. please keep us posted.
