Dear forum members,

I had seen, somewhere, mention of a feline drug for spraying; it acted as some sort of tranquilizer or something.

Anyone know anything about this?

The only spray that I know of is Feliway and it does not appear to have a tranquilizing effect but a calming effect.

The best way to prevent spraying is to neuter the cat if it hasn't been neutered, and to be sure that it is behaviorial and not health related by taking the cat to the vet and getting him tested for a UTI.

Females can spray as well, they just usually don't- so I am assuming you are talking about a male cat.

Since posting my inquiry, I have found information about the drug Amitriptyline.

Our male cat is neutered. We have explored all options, trust me on this.

We have been cat owners for many, many years and are quite well acquainted with cat behavior and misbehavior.

There is no pattern to his spraying.

We cannot bear to put him down, and yet he is ruining our home.

We will consult our vet.

Thank you. Been there. Read that.

Appreciate your help, though.

How old is your cat?

Has there been any changes before he started spraying?

Is it in the one location? Or several locations in the same areas? Or in random locations?

Just one more thing.

Check out this link. It has some brief information about Buspar, Amitriptyline and Valium and its use to treat inappropriate urination in cats.
