Hello, I have adobted a new cat that is 1 year old about a week ago named Bree. She had tiny black scabs abover her nose that I just thought were markings until I saw that they got bigger. Yesterday she started having water from her right eye like she was crying. Today she had a red substance coming from her nose (worse on the right side). I have an appointment set for the Vet for Friday but I am so worried about my new kitty. I am hopeing its just some cold but fear it is much worse. Please help.

I'm so sorry that little Bree is sick.  She's really a cutie.  To answer your question - those are not the symptoms of a regular upper respiratory infection (URI) although many cats do come with them, if adopted from a shelter.  She would be coughing and sneezing, plus exhibit congestion.  Taking her to the vet is exactly the right thing to do - if you could get her in there on Thursday that might be even better.  I don't mean to frighten you since I don't know what it is, but since the symptoms are developing quickly, it might be a good idea to at least call the vet and see what (s)he recommends in terms of coming in sooner.  You might even email this photo to the vet.

Please let us know what the vet says.  I hope it is just a minor problem, easily treated.

I really wanted to bring her in today or tomorrow but they had said they could only see her if it was in the morning on these days which I had maditory meetings. If she is worse I may take her to an emergency vet tomorrow after my meeting. She actually is sneezing a lot starting at 3 pm today, she has been sneezing in her sleep too.

Whatever this is, it does seem to be moving quickly.   I hope it doesn't get worse and you can wait till Friday but am glad you're open to the idea of the ER vet.  Poor little girl.  Paws crossed that she feels better soon.

Okay,Bree has a virus. The vet said the blood from the nose was that she broke a blood vessel from sneezing so much. They gave her a b12 shot and some medicine that I will give her for 10 days to make her feel better. So my sick kitty and I have to wait the sickness out, she should be better in about three weeks according to the vet.

Thanks for the update.  Did the vet say anything about the black scabs on her nose?  Poor baby.  I hope she feels better soon!

She said the black scabs are from here rubbing her nose frequently, how humans get red raw noses whith a cold from rubbing it.

How is Bree?  I hope she's improving now that she's been on her medicine for a few days.

Bree is a lot better! Playing and happy like a kitten.

I actually went to take bree to the vet to get her stitches removed and we found out the pound was wrong about bree!
She is actually a he! Everyone was so embarrassed, but he is still doing very well. We renamed him Brinley because he didnt know his name yet.

He is getting healthier every day! Thanks to everyone checking up on him!

Brinley is an extremely handsome boy.  I'm so glad to hear he's so much better.  It's always funny when you have to make these sudden name changes.  My old Wesley pretended until the day he passed at age 19 that he didn't know his name so I could have called him Mary for all he cared.  Brinley fits your boy, though and his face really does look much better.  Thanks for the update!
