Sorry for posting this again or having another one of these posts you guys must read all the time.

Some background:

10 month old ragdoll, male, 12lbs.

He had crystals and really concentrated urine a month ago so we put him on an all wet diet and we added water to his food every time to make it 'soupy'. We were feeding him 1 5.5oz can a day with treats, freeze dried chicken flakes on top, or 1/4-1/2 of the 3oz cans at night if he was still hungry.

His urine came back crystal free but it was very very dilute, and the vet said to stop adding water to his food. Now that we've started that, he seems to be more hungry (because there's less water to take up room in his stomach I'm assuming) and after we feed him his 1/2 can in the morning, he'll jump onto the counter and look for more food or rummage through the recycling box at old cans we've cleaned! Should we feed him more food now that he's got less volume with the water taken out?

Is 5.5oz + treats enough for him? I feed a rotation of Organx, Halo, Max Cat, Authority, Simply Nourish, Purina One, and whatever is on sale that meets my criteria for protein/fat/carbs and phosphate contents.

Thanks!!!

Try to find out how many calories are in each food. You can e-mail the companies if it's not on their websites.

At his age and size he probably needs more. How much more would depend on the calorie count of that particular food.

I'm not an expert on nutrition, but I have a two year old 9 pound female who eats more than your cat. Granted she's very active and doesn't sit still for long periods of time, but she eats well over 200 calories a day. She eats about 5-6 times a day three hours apart. The girl loves to eat!

Her daily diet consists of:

4 Tablespoons of Ziwipeak venison (~60 calories)

3 oz. homemade chicken with EZ complete (~90 calories)

3 oz. Nature's Variety Instinct canned rabbit (88 calories)

Also gets occasional treats (i.e. after a trip to the vet, the stressful car ride that goes along with that, getting her nails trimmed which she doesn't like, etc.)

We split the food into 5-6 meals.

I agree that he probably needs more. Our cats -- who are three years old and considerably smaller, at about 7-8 pounds each -- still eat more than that if I add up all their food. They're fairly active for their age and all cats are different but unless your cat is obviously gaining too much weight, I'd also try feeding him a little more and see how things go.
