And I will try to think of anything else I do that seems to help. If you do nothing else, daily interactive play will really be of benefit to Shadow and it's a great way for the two of you to bond.

Inside cats should stay inside...I noticed that was already talked about quite a bit at the start of your thread...plus you would have to worry about the cat getting harmed or possibly picking up fleas, ticks, diseases, infections etc....you also have to worry about them possibly never coming home...I'm biased though I'd be too afraid to ever put a cat outside..unless they already grew and lived out there or preferred it to indoors and I was in a safe location.

I actually am fostering a momma (and her kittens) that was an inside/outside cat and she is perfectly happy staying safe and cozy indoors....poor thing was eaten alive by fleas and other parasites.

I agree with all of the above. The life span of an outdoor cat is significantly less than that of an indoor cat. I would guess that vet bills would be higher due to all mentioned above.

I've heard cats are awake at night, how do you entertain cats on a night when you are asleep??

My kitty usually goes to bed with me when I go: i play with her then give her a meal before bedtime and she will typically be ready for sleep when I am. Most nights she will either be asleep or lie on my bed with me until I get up around 5:30 am. They key is to play them hard then feed a meal before your bedtime. The next part of the cat natural cycle will be to groom and then sleep.
Every one and a while, I'll get woken up by a crazy kitty but that is rare. If she is up while I'm asleep, she just plays by herself (I can tell this because toys will be moved around)

I need to see if I can find that kitten show online!

Shadow is used to sleeping downstairs on his own, so I hope he will be ok as I don't rise until 3pm & then go out to work!!

I'm sure he'll be fine! My cat sleeping with me is a recent thing (the last year or so).

Prior to that, she would sleep on the sofa or in her cat tree in the living room. You may find that as you and Shadow bond, he may want to sleep with/in the same room with you just to be near you!

I also wanted to add that cats really love and pick up on routines. Once Shadow spends time with you and get used to your routines and schedule, I think you will be surprised how easy being a cat guardian is. If you try to feed him at regular times, play with him at regular times etc, he will thrive. My cat knows to expect that the before bed "routine" is play, eat then time to settle down for bedtime. Most nights (I stress "most" [emoji]128520[/emoji]) this works well. You and shadow will figure out what works for you two!

Happy to help! I really struggled with deciding to adopt a cat for some of the same reasons you are and like you, I did not take the commitment of adopting a cat lightly. So I can understand your desire to make a good choice for yourself and for Shadow.
From what you have said, Shadow sounds like an easy going, well behaved little guy who is being easy going and well behaved under stressful conditions....not only is he being bullied by other cats and thrown outside but he also had a painful, infected tooth and yet he was still well behaved. I think that speaks volumes as to what a gem he is.

Well shadow is back at the vets with a secondary infection in his mouth, he's had to have more teeth out & his gums stitched. He's not got many teeth left now, bless him [emoji]9785[/emoji]️

Oh dear...poor little man...[emoji]128575[/emoji]

Well, I'm thankful that his current owner was being watchful and is getting Shadow the medical attention he needs. I'm hoping he is on the mend quickly!
