Hi everyone, I am new to this site.  My cat has what looks like a swollen pink bottom lip.  Upon internet research, it seems to be a cold sore (feline herpes) and I was wondering if anyone has had this before with their cat/cats.  I started him on L-lysine about 3 days ago (1000mg pill--half in am and pm, just breaking each half in half and giving it to him-not crushing or adding to food) and don't think it is making a difference yet.  Is this what he has and if so how long does it take to notice if working.  Oh and he was a shelter cat that had a cold before we were aloud to adopt him. Frustrated for an answer for my baby boy :-(

A swollen bottom lip may be more what is called a Rodent Ulcer rather than Feline Herpes, but it's impossible for us to say, really.  It could also be a food allergy, or chin acne from his food dish.  So many things it could be
.  Is it getting any better...are any blackhead type things appearing, or any sores or anything other than swelling.?  If it starts to get any worse, you should probably take him back to the Vet there at the shelter, or to your own Vet, to have it checked out.

BTW, congrats on your new furbaby, and good for you for checking out the L-Lysine for Herpes.  You're on the right track by investigating possibilities
