I can more feel what must be the kittens shifting inside her..her appetite has been enormous the last few weeks ...she also stayes mainly in the garden when she goes out and never strays v far...ive seen it mentioned they clean themselves a lot and shes defo doing that! Is it common to loose 1 of the kittens?!! Id be so upset if she did....

C cutekit I'm new to this as well but everything I've read that you should keep them in until they have there babies so they don't have them in a unsafe place its killing my girls not to sneak out they try every second they can but I've got every possible way blocked lol and I feel my one girl (tabby) kittens move alottttt but my other girl (kitty) I just feel them laying there I'm not sure if there just packed so tight in there or if they just aren't ready to move but her belly is very tight my girls are also very small cats but I put them on special car kitten food dry and wet and kmr and there starting plump up a little bit I'm very excited/nervous as well

Momma cat needs to stay inside now and until her kittens are weaned. How far along do you think she is? Are there any photos you can post for us?

Yes Mom cats do clean themselves a lot but some can't even reach by the time they are ready to deliver. Also it is not uncommon to lose a kitten, however, kittens born inside and kept a close eye on usually do well.

Thanks for the advice...i will definatly be keeping her in now. Wasnt keen to let her out before but she kept crying at the door an i didnt wanr to stress her in her condition...also shes very used to going to the toilet outside now but she used a litter tray when she was very young ...so should be easy to reintroduce her to it. I will post a couple of pics.

Just make sure that you have some kitten milk ready to be made up with some syringes just in case. And just remember that if you do lose a kitten, it's not your fault. The best thing to do once theyre born is to weight them everyday in the evening at at a similar time to see whether they are all gaining weight-this should be a good indication whether they are going to survive. If not , supplement them. Also have you got a rough idea of how far she is into the pregnancy ?

Thanks i will do that. Ive been reading up as much as i can too.im sure she became pregnant at the beginning of april so im sure she must be nearly full term. Her habits have changed.. and she is getting v big. Im hoping i will be able to keep her in till the babies are born i hate hearing her cry at the door shes v persistant lol...she strayed for 9 days in early april...i was devastated..then she came bk i was soo happy..think this is when she became pregnant.

Welcome to the site!

It's wonderful that you're asking questions. Mom really needs to stay 100% inside from now until she is spayed. She will get used to it if you start now. It's not safe for her to give birth outside, and many new moms try to. There are diseases and predators and parasites outside. In addition, mom can get pregnant again within a week of delivery, so she'll need to stay in until she is spayed.

Now is the time to set up nests for mom inside in some dark, cozy, quiet places. You should also buy a small scale, kmr (we like powdered by PetAg), and a needleless syringe.

Thanks ive got bk from work and shes been crying to go out a bit but i havent let her. She would normally go out for an hr or 2 and it makes perfect sense that this is not something she can do for now. I fully intend to get her neuteted after the birth i have heard its v easy for them to become prgnant again and id hate that...i only want her to have 1 litter its not fair on her. Ive put a basket with blankets in a small dark cupboard/room she likes it in there. I will defo have some suringes on stand by. :lol3::D

It's great that you're being so responsible. You're right, it's very easy for them to get pregnant again. Moms don't even have to go into heat, and it can happen within a week of delivery. It's really not worth the risk.

Mom can be spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old.

Very pleased to report ruby gave birth on 11.6.16 to 4 healthy kittens!! Shes a great mum! And did it all herself! I woke to find 1 kitten born in a cardboard box under the bed..her choice!!..she didnt seem to like the kittening box id prepared lol. I then had to go to work for 4 hrs and when i returned a futher 3 had been born. V. V. Excited!!! [emoji]129303[/emoji][emoji]129303[/emoji][emoji]129303[/emoji] they have veen feeding well and ruby has only left them to eat and use the litter tray. We have been careful not not handle the kittens at all at this early stage. I have 2 dd aged 5 and 7..but they have been very good about leaving them in peace and just accompanying me for regular checks to see that all is as it should be..and so far its going great!!! V. V
Proud!!
