Hello! I recently adopted a 10 week old kitten. He is very very affectionate and is already very attached to me. I have kitten proofed my house so when I am gone for a few hours I let him roam free, and does very well. He sleeps a lot during the day and of course my bedtime is exactly when he wants to get active. Here is my dilemma, I do not want him in my bed at night because he just wants to play and keep me up. I don't know if it is a great idea to let him roam free at night with my door closed, so I have been keeping him in a large bathroom with lots of toys, a bed, litter box, food, etc but he cries for about 30 mins. before he falls asleep and I feel guilty. Should I get over my guilt, or is there a better solution I haven't thought of? Thank you!!

He's fine if he only cries for a Half hour. It sounds like you've thought of everything he could need for his nightly confinement. I'm no expert, but I have experienced kitty craziness at human bedtime. It's why Hecate and Hades aren't allowed in the bedroom anymore (aside from Hecate spraying my clothes that one time).

When our cat Angua was a kitten, she was crated at night in an extra large dog carrier. She was always upset about it for the first twenty or thirty minutes but then she went to sleep. After she got older and had a full introduction to my adult cat, both of them slept in our bedroom.

Have you tried a playing with him and giving him a snack before you want him to go to bed at night?  Sometimes a long play session will wear a kitten out so they will fall asleep faster.  I adopted my oldest cat Starbuck when she was a kitten and I would do a long play session with her before I got ready to go to bed.  I also lay in bed and watch tv for a little while before I actually go to sleep.  Starbuck used to cry when we first fell asleep and it was hard to do but if I just let her cry she would give up and come snuggle in bed with us for the rest of the night.  I have 4 cats and they all come and go from the bed throughout the night. Most of the time they let us sleep just fine.  Starbuck is almost 10 years old once in a while she still wakes me up walking around on me.  I have found that if I act like I am still sleeping she will stop and go back to sleep quickly.
