Hi there,
Five days ago, a stray cat gave birth to a litter of three in my garden. The kittens and mother are all doing well but I just have one concern.
One of the kittens (who I think is a boy) has already opened one of his eyes. Is this normal? Because I knew that kittens were born blind and didn't open their eyes until 10-14 days, but 5 days seems too soon.

Such is in part individually, so I presume he is OK.   I suppose he COULD have some  nasty pus infection inside opening up the eyelid, but that would be rare.

Are they still outside, or did you have taken them in?

You are apparently concerned, and being inside would be best for them.  For you too.   :)

yes, i have taken them in along with the mother. but i wont be able to keep them for too long because we dont have much resources or space to keep them. however, once the kittens turn 8 weeks i will rehome them and my auntie is fine to keep the mum cat.
and i dont see any discharge from his eye or anything

Thank you for taking them in! The kitten is probably just early for opening its eyes.

If there is any way that you could keep them until they are 10 weeks old that would be amazing for their development.

Keep using this thread to ask questions!

Nursing mom's need lots of food..  Kitten wet and dry.  Depending on where you live, there may be pet food pantries or sometimes the shelters will give you food.  Be sure to explain the circumstances i.e stray cat.  They might even take you on as a foster which would give you help with vet $ and help rehome them.

No problem :) and hopefully, his sister has started to open them too slightly, so i guess i was just paranoid.
And I can try my best to keep them for aslong as possible I guess.

Yeah I feed her around 5 times a day but she's quite small and has a very small appetite. I feed her some wet food with kitten food mixed and I also feed her some cat milk.

handsome kitty handsome kitty We live in a very remote area and there isn't many vets at all. The nearest one is about 2 hours away and I'm certain that Mom cat won't allow us to transit her for that long :(

I was thinking of the kittens.    It's not unusual for them to have eye infections or URIs.

What exactly is this cat milk?  is it kitten mothermilk replacement - kmr, or is it such a low lactose treat for cats?

If the second, you can perhaps find goats milk?  Canned or powdered are OK. Raw is excellent. The cost is roughly the same as such a treat milk.

just an update. all of the kittens are doing fine. their eyes are perfectly fine, I guess they just opened them earlier.
the cat milk is treat milk but I changed it to goats milk on a Monday, I thought it was a better option :)
