Before I got my Maine Coon kitty - Lucy - I read a lot about the breed.  It seems they are very comfortable with water and like it.  So, Lucy being a perfect representation of her breed has been playing with her water bowl/water and then walking all over everything while fairly wet.  Today I caught her using the metal bowl as a hockey puck.  I don't know how she empties the heavier plastic one.

Any suggestions on a bowl which would make it harder for her to empty?

I would suggest a fountain, too. I have the Drinkwell Platinum, and I love it. Mingo loves it, too, and drinks freely from it. The problem with bowls is that cats instinctively clear the surface of a pool of water before they drink, which means they splash water all over the place. But they won't do this with running water. Mingo drinks right out of the spout of the fountain, not from the pool beneath. He did the splashing too until I got the fountain.

He also likes to drink out of the toilets, splashing water first. So I have to keep the lids down.

I may have to get a fountain.  Today both bowls were emptied within 1/2 of her morning meal.  She goes over to Sparky's bowl as well.  There she is, sitting in a puddle of water, totally oblivious to the world and seemingly a very contented cat.  Then, it's off to explore the places in my small studio apartment which are still dry.

The problem with fountains is the electrical cord - I don't like it too close where she can grab it; and, the noise.  I've had fountains in the past and they make a lot of noise.

One more possible glitch is that I keep her food and water around 3 or 4 feet away from Sparky's.  He is still uncomfortable with her.  He tolerates her most of the time, but I would rather not force them to drink from the same bowl if i don't have to. Or, to eat right on top each other.

My cat is scared of just about everything: I tried one fountain and she was too scared of the noise of the fountain to drink out of it so I purchased this one:

The pump has three settings and the only sound I ever hear is the gentle lapping of water, every once and a while. It's ceramic so it's heavy (unlikely that Lucy can use this as a hockey puck!). The square shape makes it so more than one cat can comfortably drink out of it without being on top of each other. Plus, it looks nice!
You can buy via Amazon and other websites as well.

The Drinkwell Platinum makes no noise other than the sound of running water. There are several videos of it on YouTube. I put Chewsafe on the cords so Mingo wouldn't chew them - he did like to chew cords very much. I don't think your cat will be able to pull the cord out of the wall outlet.

The two cats can take turns drinking. It's doubtful they will want to drink at the same time.

My baby boy Charlie pushes his bowl. Many cats do this because they need to see it moving to know its safe and fresh to drink.. fountains cure this instinct buy giving them constant moving water. I tried every bowl idea out there.. even fountains.. turns out Charlies need to play with EVERYTHING was to powerful. Hes a big 28lb very large breed.. so after about 30 bowls and fountains, and suction cups bowls, and stablizing catch trays... I found a heavy, ceramic, deep popcorn bowl.. it was a set you can find online. It's on ebay now for 25$ for the whole set. I use the bowls for tons of stuff besides popcorn and Charlie. But it's really heavy, and the sides are high enough to keep a half full bowl of water where it belongs if he does gets the power for a push here and there.. yet still comfortable for the boys to dip their heads for a drink with out feeling closed in..

Just so your not questioning, i use the smaller portion bowls not the big one. No more rivers across the kitchen floor to step in in the midnight walk to the bathroom!

I never heard of Chewsafe.  Sounds good.  What can you tell me about it.

It's clear plastic tubing that is slit down the side so you can fit cords and cables inside it. You buy it by the foot and can easily cut it to any length. You can order it online; just google it. Cats won't chew it because it's fat tubing ~ about finger size.

Is it made for cats?  It sounds like a product used to hide wires and cables, and has been adapted for this use.

Just bought Lucy and Sparky a water fountain.  This is just after I placed it down for her.  Any other suggestions?  LOL

First, may I compliment Lucy on her splendid tail?  It's magnificent!  And she's adorable playing with her water, though I can appreciate your concern with the water all over the floor.  You might try getting one of these mats.  They have a rim so it contains a lot of the spilled water.  I got mine at Amazon and would recommend the large one. It's really not that large.

How is that fountain working out for you? I almost put this in my shopping cart but then decided to see if anyone on here had one & if they liked it. What's the verdict?

I continue to be very pleased with this fountain. It's easy to clean, quiet and most importantly my cat drinks out of it!!
