I've had my cat for about five to six months now, and my brother recently adopted a puppy. The puppy has been with us for about three days, and she's six weeks old. Here's the problem: Whenever they're together, Roma (the cat) starts out sniffing her and then attacks her. She bites and tries to play rough with the puppy. At first we thought it was because the puppy had different scents on her because she was at the sanctuary surrounded by other cats and dogs, so we showered the puppy, but it didn't work. We don't force interaction, and when they do interact, we leave the door open so the cat can runaway or we have hiding places for her. We've tried introducing the dog's scent to Roma, but it doesn't work either. Is this normal? How can we get them to get along?

Don't expect them to be best friends at first some adult animals do not like baby animals at first, take the introductions slow as the pup was just brought home. What breed is the puppy?

Has your cat been around dogs or puppies before? If not, it's probably new to her and it's good you don't force interactions. Your cat will come around, just keep an eye on the both of them and never leave them unsupervised together until they do get along or it could turn out ugly.

The puppy is mixed, we don't know what breeds exactly. They didn't tell us, but we think she's part beagle.

Yes, we have an older dog she sometimes hangs out with. The dog is around seven years old. We keep them in separate rooms almost all the time in case anything happens.

I'm worried that the cat might start doing her necessities outside the litter box. She did it the night the puppy arrived, but she hasn't done it since. Also, she wants to eat the puppy's poop, is that normal?

Just supervise closely when they are out together. Does the pup try to play with her?

Well, animals eat poop... just keep it picked up and you won't have issues. I'm used to dogs eating cat's poop lol. Good luck!

Yes, they stared playing today, but it quickly got ugly.

Thanks!
