Hello,

Does anyone have experience feeding their cats both a raw ground recipe with bones AND raw ground with egg shell powder at the same time? Or is this a big no no for health reasons? Would this potentially cause constipation, even if each recipe is properly balanced? Would it potentially cause problems for IBS/colitis kitties? I know, each cat is different, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this?

I am currently feeding ground up raw chicken thighs with the feline-nutrion recipe, as well as boneless pork and ESP with the "TCS Pork Dinner" recipe. I am going to make an order with HT this week, so that I can give them a better variety of proteins, but I'm trying to decide b/w sticking with boneless meats OR ground meat/bone/organs. Since I am trying to be better with my time management, it would be best to not have to make both types of food, and figure something out that would well with all my fur babies.

The thing is, they have a few issues. I want to give my cats a variety of proteins with bone b/c I feel that, as far as raw feeding goes, it is a very healthy way to go, but :

-I have two kitties(Nelly and Mona) that have IBS/colitis symptoms, and I am unsure if the bone is causing any internal irritation

-I am unsure if there is a best calcium choice/recipe for IBS kitties

-One of my kitties(Grommit)seems to have irritation in his mouth when feeding ground up bone. He frequently makes a weird mouth movement, but doesn't do this when I feed him only boneless recipes. I use the smallest plate when grinding meat/bone. Has anyone had kitties with this trouble? I have found that the HT whole ground rabbit has larger pieces of ground bone than my home ground food. I wonder if larger ground bone would be less likely to cause mouth irritation for Grommit, but more likely to cause gut irritation for Nelly and Mona?

Thank you so much for any input!

From a nutritional and constipation standpoint, there is no reason you can't use both bone and ESP as long as you are sure you are using proper amounts of each. I don't use eggshell but I feed both ground bone-in meals and meals with MCHA. MCHA is freeze dried bone.

I have also wondered whether it would be a good idea to stay away from bone if a cat has any kind of digestive issue like IBS. In addition to the possible irritation issue you mention, bone is harder to digest. If I had a cat with digestion issues I wouldn't feed bone but I can't say I really know that it would make a difference.

As for Grommit, I've heard that some cats may not like the feel of ground bone in their food. I imagine it has a kind of gritty texture. That may be why he does the strange mouth thing when eating bone in meals.
