When we moved in 11 years ago, I wanted to change out the ugly, dated metal storm door and the faded light green shutters.  Finally, we did this today!

We have a very pale yellow house--it's almost light tan.  DH thought black shutters and a black front door would be too much of a contrast. I thought they'd look great. As usual, I was right.

When we took the shutters down to paint them, guess what color they originally were?  Yep. Black. Everything is still drying, but we plan to have the shutters up by Monday, after we power wash the house. Our houses get a green mossy film on the north side, so we wash it every summer.

I threw out the ugly storm door, and don't plan to replace it just yet.  I'll get a full-glass one, with a black frame if I do.

Once the flowers are planted near the porch, and with a new door mat, it will look great.

Wow, it sounds so nice.

We've had a red front door forever. I like it, but it fades easily to a barn-reddish and I don't like that. So last year, we decided to go with a Colonial Blue. It was gorgeous with our light blue siding. I loved that blue.

Alas, it started to bubble. Really bubble. And then the paint started to come off in sheets. It's a metal door and even though Rick used Rustoleum products, we think the southern sun was simply too much heat. You can fry an egg on our front door in the summer, that's how terribly hot it can get. I've burned my arm on that door. He removed the door and took off every drop of paint. It's really ugly right now. He's going to talk to a friend who does automotive painting and see how much it would cost for him to paint the door in his shop. And then that will do....for now.

I'd like to replace the front door and storm door. A new door, sidelights on both sides, a highlight. And then put in a window the length of the door and sidelights above the door (we have a bi-level, so there's plenty of room there for a window). With a shelf inside. I had seen a picture on Pinterest and I've kept that picture. I've talked to the guy who does most of the construction when we do any remodeling (new windows, etc) and he likes the idea. It will mean cutting into the brick at the front doorway, but he can do that. A lot of it comes down to money (doesn't it always?), not so much for the door, but for the added construction.

Whatever color we decide on for the new front door will also be the color for the shutters on the front of the house.

That sounds great! I'd love to see pics.

We have south-facing metal doors. I hate them. As Pam said, they get SO hot. The trim on the window of one of them is actually all warped from the heat. We are slowly painting the house and when we get to the front, new doors and storm doors are on my list.
