Hey there,

I'm not really good at this sort of stuff, honestly I'm only 15 years old. But my kitten has something wrong with his eyes, and I'm sure something else wrong, and my parents won't take him to the vet. I'm really worried, can someone tell me what I can do??

I don't know how old this little kitten is, but he's pretty young. He was the only one that the momma brought to us. He's not allowed inside, so he's made to live on our porch with his mother (his mother is feral so I wouldn't be able to get close to her if I tried). His eyes look red and sore, and sometimes there is a goopy discharge. Every morning I clean away the gunk with a paper towel dipped in warm tea. His eyes stayed gunk free after the first time I did that. But something still seems wrong, his eyes are still weird looking, and maybe it's just me, but someone please tell me what I can do.

He also meows very faintly...and sometimes it sounds like he has flem in his throat. He also sneezes occasionally.

P.S. He doesn't act like it bothers him a whole lot, he doesn't even paw at his eyes. He's over all a happy kitten.

He has an upper respiratory infection, a kitty cold if you will.  You can actually use human eye allergy drops in his eyes since you probably can't get terramycin eye ointment for him (unless there is a Tractor Supply store near you and you could get a ride there.)  You can and should use soft cotton balls soaked in warm water to gently clean away all the crusty things around his eyes because that will help keep the bugs away.  After they are clean, just dry the fur with the cotton balls.  If you keep making friends with thelittle guy, maybe you will be able to get one of your friends to adopt him and take him home.  One good thing to do would be to carry him into the bathroom, turn on the shower with warm water and get the bathrom steamy, and stay there holding him for about 15 minutes.  That will loosen up the phlegm in his nose and throat and maybe he will sneeze and cough them out.  You can probably figure out how to sneak him in and out. You're 15.  I could sneak in and out when I was 15!  You might want to play a radio in the bathroom in case he cries.  Feed him some canned food too, to keep his energy up.  Dry food isn't great, but if that's all you have, put some water in it to make it soft.  Or some tuna juice!

Hi sweetie try some saline water -salt water -  to wipe down around his eyes instead of tea

http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-clean-your-cats-eyes/

It looks like his left eye isn't doing good in the first few 2 shots but OK in last?

If he indeed needs to see a Vet is it possible to negotiate with your parents

doing extra chores etc so you can take him? Or help from Grandma?

Looks gorgeous and tame you're taking good care of him

Thank you so much! I'll try the salt water, but quick question, should I heat it up or room temperature? Also, my parents wont do it because they say it will cost too much, but I will ask my grandparents. Thanks. The pictures were all taken the same day, so I don't know why they look different.

Again, I really appreciate it. Thank you so much! :)

Thank you for replying! I do feed him canned food. Which I have a question on that, how much should I feed him a day? I've been giving him a big tablespoon every day, but I don't really know if that's the correct amount.

I can get on of my friends to pick me up some terramycin eye ointment. But how often do I treat his eyes?

Also, I will bring him in and do the bathroom trick. Again, thank you :)

At his age, you should feed him as much as he will eat, three or four times a day.  When he is done, you can put the rest in the refrigerator and cover it.  You can microwae for 5 seconds to take the chill off later if it's too cold, i.e. hard for him to eat.

You're very welcome :)

Room temperature is fine, it's boiled to help dissolve the salt plus if you boil water it helps to sterilize it, if using tap water. Bottled water is good to use.  Hope he improves fast especially using methods from RedTopRescue  Steaming in washroom
