This started 2 weeks ago, my 9 months old female cat starts meowing at the wall and ceiling. I don't see any bugs or insects. She does it for about 5 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day. The other cat doesn't bother. Not sure what to make of it?

Hmm; if it was at night, definitely I'd be concerned about the possibility of rats or mice in the cavities. Day-time? Not so certain, but IMO it would be worth checking, just in case.

I don't know the logistics of your home, or if this comment is helpful given that it sounds like she is looking up, I have lived in apartments and it took me a while (like, years) to figure out that my one cat meows at other cats and dogs that I can't hear. But my other cats do not; they just ignore it. So it's possible that it's noises from animals outside? Like I said, I don't know the logistics of where you live, but it's something that I've noticed. (And all of my cats are fixed.)

Hmm... sounds like a ghost to me.

Haha Just kidding. What a pretty girl she is :)

I agree, it may be something you can't hear. They say cats might see in ultraviolet so maybe it's just something you can't see. I do know that a cat facing the wall is cause for concern.

I live in an apartment too, and the building is pet friendly (I live in Dubai and not all places allow pets). And I have 7 dogs on my floor. So maybe its just that.

Well, she isn't rubbing herself anywhere, nor is she being cuddly or affectionate, she runs when we try to rub her or cuddle and she isn't raising her hind legs either. I have an un-neutered male (as I plan on breeding them) as well and she gives him a cold shoulder too. He is 8 months old British Shorthair Silver Tabby (not from the same litter or parents). I will make a trip to the vet this week and see what he says. Had taken them for their usual check up10 days back, and he said all is good with both. Here is a picture of both Mishka (Blue) and Mufasa (Tabby).

I had a cat who did the same thing. It was only at night and only in my bed. He'd look up and meow for a bit at the ceiling. He did that his whole life. I just chalked it up to a funny quirk!

Lol my cats sit and stare at the ceiling fan. Seems to be common for them to react oddly to them. My cats are very talkative and meow a lot but unusual meowing directed at certain places has been in my experience related to rodents or insects. Once I had a couple of mice get in and my cats were aware long before I ever realized that was what was catching their attention, the first clue was that they were bolting across the room and meowing loudly like they saw something, and this went on for weeks and then finally they caught one mouse. But things like hearing animals outside or in a nearby place can cause the same reaction. My cats meow or chatter in the window when they see animals outside. There was a time when I lived in an apartment building and had a cat who would sit by the door listening to all the people and pets coming in and out and meow at them. Try to pay attention to her behavior when it happens eventually you'll figure it out. She seems to be meowing at something, cats ears are much more sensitive than ours and they can hear a lot of things we don't, especially in an apartment building.
