Skye had her 6-month blood work and we just got the results back. Her "Birthday Blood" is really good! Other than a high eosinophil count which we expect every time because she has eosinophilic granuloma complex-- her vital organs are fine. Kidneys, liver, glucose and everything else was really good. BUN was a wee bit high, but the other things are right as they should be. She had just eaten some canned food before DH took her in, so that could be the cause of the very small rise. Protein digestion can cause a higher BUN, and BUN is not specific for kidney disease particularly if other values are normal.
So, except for some allergies and some arthritis that we have under control-- Skye is in GOOD HEALTH for being a virtual 72 year old woman.
She has beaten the record for our oldest cat! Our last 2 died of cancer (PTS at 12.5 and 13.5 yeats of age). The one before them died suddenly of known heartworm disease at age 12 (before anyone understood how HW's affect cats-- she was the first feline HW case that our vet had ever seen so it was still murky territory. We know better now!)
Here's hoping for another good year, but we appreciate every precious day we have with her.
