Mabel, one of the stray cats I feed, was pregnant and for a time I had no idea were she had her kittens until a few weeks ago I started hearing scratching sounds coming from the walls in my bathroom. At first I thought we had mice but then I started hearing faint meows coming from the corner where the shower is.

The walls in our house are hollow so its not impossible that Mabel may have found an opening from the outside and gave birth to her litter in the space between the walls. I figured that she was taking care of them in their because she would disappear for most of the day but still be around for meal time.

So I left them alone and thought that once the kittens are old enough Mabel would lead them outside but recently I noticed that she has been hanging around outside on the porch more often and haven't seen any of her kittens yet. Yesterday I started hearing movement and meowing  in different parts of the house and now I think the kittens are trying to find their way out but can't.

what do i do? I'v tried to find where Mable might have gotten into the walls but haven't found any openings from the outside and I'm starting to get worried.

Attach a wireless camera onto her collar Fast! You can purchase new for less than a hundred

possibly online second hand on kijiji. Insulation alone is lethal, exterior walls are insulated. Maneuvering over electrical wires pipes and what not making matters worse!

*Unscrew electrical outlits then use flashlights to see inside the walls have you tried that yet?

Keep us updated

@celestialJewel   ...Try putting bowls of the most smelliest wet cat food, or tuna, salmon, anywhere where you think that your cat Mabel could have fit, to get into the walls.

Do you have access from underneath your bathroom? If so, then check all the plumbing pipes that lead into the bathroom.

There are usually larger openings for the sewer/toilet pipes and smaller ones for the supply lines.

If you do have access from the other side of your bathroom wall, where the shower is, then you can also make a square opening, as in an access panel.

The space below a tub is usually hollow, and any where there are vents, or plumbing pipes have empty spaces as well.

Just be careful when cutting the walls. Use only hand tools, and start off with small cuts, with drywall knife, or small chisel, saw, and listen for cat sounds.

Cut from stud to stud, so that you can easily fix the opening, later.

What type of material are your walls made from? Wood panelling, drywall, stucco?

Not sure if some of these tools would work for you, and some are pricey.

But they do sell 'infrared thermometers' which usually detect temperature changes around windows, wall, ceilings...but I'm not sure if they can detect the temperature of a small kitten. http://www.homedepot.com/b/Electric...ers/Infrared-Thermometer/N-5yc1vZboffZ1z1180y

There is also 'inspection camera's for walls, that some electricians and plumbers use:

Again, they are costly, and not sure how good any of them are.

Sometimes phoning up a handyman/woman, or plumber may help in giving you more ideas to try, or asking them if they have these type of inspection cameras.

If Mabel is a friendly stray, and you are able to bring her into the house, then leave her in each room, and see if she reacts to the noises that her kittens are making.

She may meow at them and call them out.

Please update, when you can.

Oh, I just saw this camera online, too. Don't know how good it would be.

Hope you find those kittens fast.

I have a 17-year-old named Wallflower, because she was one of those kittens trapped inside walls, in her case at an apartment complex.  The management cut a hle in the wall and got her out.  I took her because she was a little 6-week-old scared black feral and it was either me or Animal Control, and we know how much chance she would have had with them.  I don't think they had cameras like that 17 years ago.  Good luck catching your little ones.  Be careful, too, because if they have never seen or smelled humans, they may well bite you, and tiny as they are, kitten bites can hurt a lot.  Throw a towel over the kitten and then burrito it.

Will the fire department help? They have equipment that can detect body heat through walls, I know they've helped to rescue kittens trapped like this before. Do you have any idea how old the kittens are?

Thank you everyone for the tips and advice!

A friend of mine is  coming today with some tools and were going to try to get them out from the wall. we have a small air vent in the bathroom were going to try to remove it  and peek in to locate them  and go from there.

I'll keep you all updated on what going on as we try to rescue the kittens.
