Okay, folks, we don't do gifts, but we do do a special dinner. Do you?
How? Do you go out? To a particular "special" place? or just wherever seems best this year?

Or do you stay home? And, then, who cooks that special dinner? Her? or Him? Is it a particular favourite? or something special you just discovered?

Last year he left for work early in the morning. When I awoke I found this piece of paper with a riddle on it. This riddle would lead me to an item that he's hidden around the house. I found more riddles along with cute little items. But the last riddle was the best, because there I found a big pink Care Bear doll. I was eyeing that doll for weeks. Haha! Anyhoo, that's the first time he's done anything creative for Valentine's. This year will be different because we are moving. So we'll probably just end up eating at home. Plus Valentine's falls on a Saturday, so you know the restaurants will be packed. I'd rather spend the evening having a picnic on the beach anyway.

There's no place like home
With Valentine's day being on a Saturday this year, the restaurants in town will be packed and we don't like crowds. I will probably make Steve's favorite meal - Lasagna, which I made for one of our early dates and won his heart (or at least stomach) with it. Then we can spend time with the true loves of our lives, our furbabies.

Since Bob works most Saturdays, we're celebrating early...tomorrow as a matter of fact! We always go to our favorite restaurant, then come home for 3 treats. I make a special dessert, he gives me a back massage, then we exchange gifts. They can't be anything serious. We only exchange "fun" gifts. This year he's getting an Egg bush. Its an small plant that grows a vegetable that looks like a hard boiled egg.

Mike and I both agree that because of our relationship/friendship we don't need a special commanded day for us to tell each other how we feel. We do that pretty much everyday that we have been together. Plus our anniversary is the following week, and as that is our day we do special things on it instead.

This year, because of Racer, we won't be going anywhere but maybe a movie and dinner to celebrate our 17th year of marriage.

We usually try to go to Red Lobster for Valentine's Day Dinner. I'm thinking of trying to go on Friday, since I have the afternoon off and we could be there around 5:00 before the mad rush starts.

I have to say, Valentine's Day couldn't fall at a worse time for those of us living paycheck to paycheck. February is always a short pay period for hourly employees, and then it's the day or two before we get paid! GGGRRR!

We have the same situations, having our anniversary two days before Valentines (and also not having a history of celebrating Valentines in this country), we rather like to do something on OUR day, rather than one oredered by the merchants making a day of trying to sell stuff
)
I voted for going to a restaurant that seems good this years, since we try to do that - on our day...
Actually since my s/o will be working untill at least 8 PM on OUR day, we might go out to dinner on Saturday instead, especiallly since he has the weekend off.

Since both of us seem to have very EXSPENSIVE taste but don't make much money we try and save up about 60 bucks to go out but useally end up spending it on bills the sneak up on us. So he useally cooks for me (he's a true romantic that's for sure). or like last year we had no money at all due to the both of us losing our jobs with in days of each other. We ended up doing nothing. This year we are treating each other to massages and little gifts.....even tho his to me isn't so small.....It's an engagement ring
I'm just getting him the massage and prolly take him to his favorite place to eat......His grandma's
he hasn't been to see her in a little over a year and since she's 100% italian she's a pretty dang good cook, and what better place to have him ask me to marry him??

Thanks for the responses, everyone -- interesting.

For Valentines we do dinner, at home, and I cook. It's a win/win situation, because I have fun doing a special meal and Rob loves to eat it. Sometimes I do lamb (either a roast or chops), that being Rob's favourite. But just as often, I see something else in the market that begs a lovely treatment, and do that instead.

We do eat out from time to time, but we try to avoid the times when restaurants are for sure going to be crazy. Rob would rather eat my cooking, anyway, but he knows I like to go out for a change. Mostly, though, we spend our restaurant budget on nice food and wine at home -- the $$ go farther and you can eat in comfortable clothes
