Hi y'all
This is my first time posting and I need desperate help. A week ago my beautiful Lynx point siamese male started having urinary problems. I immediately brought him to the vet and they determined he had a blockage. So that began a week of back and forths to the vet major frustration and a ton of tears and 1 panic attack on my part! They successfully deblocked him and sent him home but now he won't even try to pee... yesterday I took him back to the vet they tried to express him but found that his urethra is probably stuck together. They've done xrays, blood tests and urinalysis. Even brought in a cat surgical expert ,they were thinking the penis removal might work but in the end the surgeon said that's not the problem. So now he's back at the Vet with a catheter and on meds hoping and praying thathat his bladder will start contracting and he will get the urge to pee again. He's not even attempting to pee right now so his bladder keeps filling up!I can't afford to keep having him catheterized and I'm worrI'd to death I'm going to have no choice but to put him down. I'm having major surgery in 3 weeks I'm sooooo stressed out. Has anyone experienced this after a deblocking?
Please any advice? He's my baby boy (I don't have kids) and it'll tear me apart at an awful time if I have to put him down.

So upset and worried :(

There's lots on your plate right now!!  I'm so sorry you're dealing with all this.

I had a cat get blocked multiple times a few years ago.  It doesn't sound as severe as your boy, but it was severe enough that he was unable to urinate and spent a lot of time crying in the litter box and producing nothing.  Each time he was blocked and needed un-plugged at the vets, so to speak.

Will he eat any kind of wet food?  Sometimes this can be an issue of not getting enough moisture; cats have a really low thirst drive and usually don't drink enough water to get what they need.  I got mine off of kibble and switched them to canned, and then to raw, and it's been several years with no problems on his part (but I do keep an eye out for any issues!)  If he's not keen on wet food, do you think he would take to his regular food with some water added?

I hope things get better ASAP and he comes home safe, sound, and feeling much better!!

(PS:  Don't feel bad about your reaction; when one of mine was suffering from a mystery disease that was causing rapid weight loss, I  had a full blown nervous break down at work.  Very embarrassing at the time but luckily my co-workers know me and understand!  And it took some trial and error, but the pet in question is pretty much all better and could probably stand to lose a pound or two!)

What exactly has the Vet told you about what's happening to your boy?  Is he on some meds to help relax his bladder, help with pain, and maybe even help him desttress to help him "let loose"?  Did they give you any reassurance that things should improve?  You said the surgical expert didn't think the P/u surgery was the right option, so what did she think was the right option besides re-catheterization?

Of course, moisture IS the best thing possible once you make it thru this crisis.  I'm guessing he's now on S/O food now too?

How is your boy today? I just went thru this in December.. It's horrifying. My boy was catherised for 2 days, which is standard. Then it's removed to see if he can go again on his own. One thing he NEEDS in hospital & home... PAIN MEDICINE. I suggest buprenorphine. Also a bladder spasm medicine. Litter box avoidance happens when there has been pain with using it, they will avoid it. Hopefully they can find the reason for this, sometimes it's idiopathic, no reason. Greyson had no crystals after block or infection, but he sure had PAIN. Pain reduction does wonders if it is not a surgical procedure fix. We w were back & forth to the vets for 2 months. I didn't think it would ever settle down, but it has. At home I also gave him subq fluids, you may want to ask your vet about that also as he recuperates. It helps to continue flushing the bladder & provides the extra fluid they need after blocking.
I hope he feels a bit better today.. I'll be looking for your update.
Many puRrS for strength...
