I memtioned a few weeks ago that my brother and his bengals finally moved out of my house. While, it's a relief for me, my male cat is bored and misses his playmates. My female still doesn't want to interact with him.
I was considering getting another cat but my allergies are getting worse, so I would like a relativel allergy-friendly breed. I'm looking for something that is good with other animals and that will, hopefully, become a companion to my male.
My male isn't huge but he is big, so I want a fairly hearty breed. I was reading about the Balinese and thought it might be a good fit. Any suggestions?

I've never had a Balinese cat but they are listed as among the top hypoallergenic cat breeds - not that any cat breed is completely hypoallergenic.  Perhaps you could find a Balinese rescue and get to meet some?   If your cat is grown, you should also consider getting a cat about the same age.   Even if a breed has a reputation for getting along with other animals, as Balinese cats do, you can never be sure when adopting a kitten as the one you adopt might be an exception.  The great thing about adopting from a rescue is that the volunteers tend to know the personalities of their cats and can recommend one that would fit your family.

I've never had a kitten. I just assumed if the kitten was raised around the other cars, it would get along. However, getting an adult cat, that rescuers are familiar with might be a better solution.  Plus, rescuing a car is always a good thing.

I know I'm late to this but I have a Balinese and I would 100% recommend them. She's my first purebred cat I've ever had and she is amazing. Very frisky and playful, but she loves to sleep with me. She hardly sheds at all, I can hold her on a black shirt and the shirt won't have a single hair on it. My mother is very allergic to cats and she doesn't so much as sneeze around my girl. Of course no cat breed is really hypoallergenic, but some are better than others, and the Balinese seems to be one of those. Also, we don't have any other cats but we have three dogs that she absolutely adores. Our mini schnauzer and her play for hours on end!

That's great.  I've never seen them in person.  I've only read about them.  Structurally, what are these cats like? Are they slight or more solid?

My male, as I mentioned, is a good size cat and he can get a bit rough. I wouldn't want a delicate cat that's too delicate.

If you've ever been around a Siamese, structurally they are the exact same way. Some are very frail and lanky but these usually come from the modern head shape because that's just the style. If you go with an old style head shape the body is very stout and stocky. Balinese are typically medium sized cats but makes are bigger than females. My girl is an old-style head and although she doesn't weigh much at 4.5 months, she is very stout.
Not the best picture because she was in the dark, but this is her build.

I will say that they are very, very active cats. She plays constantly and she calms down more the older she gets but still probably the most active cat I have ever owned. Also she is a one person cat, by no means aggressive or scared of other people, I'm just her person and that's that in her mind. I don't know if that factor is an overall Balinese trait or just with my girl, but I honestly love that I'm her favorite haha.
