I'm thinking probably somewhere in the 1980s or so. It was like a pizza pie, with two crusts; the sauce was thicker than a regular pizza sauce. And the layering was different. We used to get it at Pizza Hut from time to time, until I figured out how to make them; they're not that difficult at all. We remember that there were different flavors. Rick liked the meatlover's. I had mine with tomatoes. I tore mine apart one time to get an idea of how to layer.

Last night Rick and I were sitting on the couch and, out of the blue, he says, "Pam, I want Priazzo. I really want a Priazzo." I asked him what in the world brought that on and he said they were talking about Priazzo at work and now he really, really wants a Priazzo. Actually, everybody at work who was in the conversation now wants a Priazzo and they were trying to figure out how to make them. Rick said he knew....that his wife used to make them.

It's been a while, but I'm going to figure it out again. I remember I have a really good cornmeal-type crust that I used, almost like a deep-dish. A thicker crust on the bottom with the thinner crust on top. I'm sure I have notes somewhere, probably in one of my recipes files (but I have a ton of recipe files to look through!).

Saturday night. Wish me luck.

hmmm, wonder if I could use sourdough....

Somewhere between 89 and 92 I worked at Pizza Hut. I definitely remember the priazzo. They used thin n crispy crusts that they perforated then added fillings and another thin crust which was sauced and cheesed like a regular pizza, if I remember correctly. They also had this round metal thing with prongs that they put in the top for even baking of it.
They were delicious.
I remember they did use a cheese blend not straight mozzarella.

I googled it (I didn't live in the US at the time so I guess I missed out :(), and it seems like a lot of people have their own recipe for how to approximate the Priazzo. Maybe you could use their ideas along with yours and really make it perfect. And send some to the rest of us! :lol3:

I googled it, too, to see what I could find about it. Evidently it has a Facebook page.

It really was delicious.
