Hi all!
Awhile back Enzo was diagnosed with IBD. I have him on a limited ingredient turkey diet (wet because he has a history of crystals) and he happily eats it with no issues. I can't be certain but I think his IBD symptoms were caused by his seafood-only diet. My question is whether or not his needs are being met by only feeding him the one protein (turkey). If I do need to vary his diet, I suppose it will also be a limited ingredient food (chicken?) just in case it is some random ingredient causing the IBD. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi :wavey: I remember reading about Enzo :) So glad to hear that he is doing well. I honestly don't know the answer to your question as I have no personal experience with IBD kitties.

I would be reluctant to try something new if Enzo is doing well on what he's eating. If he is having normal poo's and happy with a good appetite, personally, I would stay with what you know is working now.

IF you want to try another protein source maybe try something like pure bites treats /chicken, rehydrate them before giving them to Enzo, start very slowly and see if chicken agrees with him or not.

I'm sure someone with personal experience will be along soon but I wanted to say hi and give my 2 cents worth ;)

:hugs: to you and Enzo

I'm so glad to hear that Enzo's doing better! I, too, remember your earlier posts!

As long as the foods you're feeding are complete foods--not labeled "for supplemental feeding only" or somesuch--you shouldn't have a problem. (I think this is the crux of what you're asking, right: you just want to be sure that feeding him only one food is okay?)

Like @LotsofFur, I'd probably also be reluctant to introduce more foods if Enzo's doing well and happily eating only one food. What, by the way, are you feeding him? I know Nature's Variety Instinct and Merrick both have LID turkey foods--our cats (not IBD cats but "sensitive") love the Merrick food! They also love the Merrick LID duck.

I hope Enzo continues to do well on his LID turkey!

Thank you both so much! It's Merrick limited ingredient turkey so it's definitely meant to be served as his main source of food. He does get crunchy dental treats which are chicken flavored, but they are grain free and have no by-products so he seems to tolerate them just fine. You've made me feel better-I think I'll just stick to the turkey since he likes it and seems to be doing well. Thank you so much! =)

Yes, that's definitely not a problem! That Merrick's very decent food, with no carrageenan, either. And you could always try him on the duck or chicken if he gets tired of turkey. I'm glad he's doing so well!
