Moscato was too young to be spayed when I adopted her (8 weeks) but in her adoption contract, it states that she'll need to have her surgery scheduled by the end of the first week of June which will be here before I know it!

I'm not really sure what to expect, though. Will she be kept overnight at the vet's office? How closely will I need to keep an eye on her after I bring her home? I work full time, so I'm wondering if I should take a few days off work to stay home with her.

Any advice for this new kitty mamma would be greatly appreciated!

Of course each kitty is different but I had no issues with one that was spayed a number of years ago.  I worked full time also.  The main thing you will need to watch for is if she starts licking or biting at the incision, mine didn't but some kitties do.  If she won't leave it alone then she will need a cone of shame.

No food after midnight which I am sure the vet will tell you.  Some vets give pain medication to take home some don't.  The vet that did Alice's spay didn't, her reasoning was that pain would keep her from doing things that could cause issues like running up stairs.  Some vets will keep a kitty overnight the first night others don't.  I picked up Alice the next day.

Will using the litter pan be an issue for her? I guess I'm a little worried about her incision possibly getting infected. She shares a litter box with my roommate's cat so unless we keep a constant eye on the litter box, there's usually double the poo in there, haha. Would separating her for a few days be a better idea? I'm not sure how active she'll be anyways, but I doubt she'll want to be locked up in my room, especially if I'm at work all day.
