I have a cat w/ cat version of IBS & leaking Diarrhea ... I can't keep her anymore bc of kids moving in & need to find a no kill shelter.   I have tried special diet & various forms of meds.  She won't take to any of the meds.

I tried shelters I could find from North Denver to Southern Colorado springs.  I'm willing to drive to find a place that could extend her life.

Typical of the condition diarrhea is the only obvious problem.  Her personality & everything else is healthy

Hi fleet

There are many posters here who can offer advice on how to administer meds

ANY kind of medications...

How old is she?  any pictures? Diarrhea means loss of fluids that can get dangerous

Consider keeping if condition was under control?

I don't understand why kids moving in would make you give her to a shelter.  You could always get a large dog crate and set it up nicely for her if she is having incontinence problems and keep her there when you are not home or are asleep. There are many threads on here having to do with IBD and diarrhea, but it may not even be that. How long have you had her?  Did she have it when you got her?  She may have a parasite like giardia, or even a nasty bacterial infection such as C. difficile (which responds well to a probiotic called Saccharomyces boulardii, which is not even expensive and can be mixed with her food or with a little warm coconut oil and administered by mouth with a syringe.  Saying she will "not take to any of the meds" would indicate you need to know some better techniques for getting meds into a cat.  If you are trying to give her a bitter medicine, like metronidazole, it is best to crush it and put it in a gelatin capsule. A lot of folks here can give detailed instructions for that, and there are some great ones on YouTube as well.

If you really just do not want the cat anymore, perhaps your vet could help you find a better placement for her.  Flame point cats are lovely and once she is well again, she will probably be easy to adopt.

The most affectionate cat i ever known.   She is 5yrs old, last 3 yrs she's been leaking diarrhea.  I've taken her to vet a few times & she does have IBD cat version.

I tried different ways to put the meds in different forms for her to take it & she refuses.   I used the physical methods, but got to the point i'd have to hunt her down to even try.

Please read @Red Top Rescue  's post #3.  There are a lot of options here.

You might try researching holistic methods of treating kitty IBS as well. Using things like applesauce (cooked apples have lots of digestible pectin) and herbs such as slippery elm, marshmallow root and red raspberry leaf (always use commercially prepared herbs unless you truly know what you are doing) can help if done with the supervision of an expert.  I have several cats who can be treated only once with medicines - it is tricky to hide meds in foods.

I hope that you are able to place the kitty soon! Hopefully, if you can get the runny stools under control, she will be easier to place.

MOD NOTE:  Please remember that we cannot allow any form of what might seem like direct veterinary advice on this board

1.  If you suspect that your cat may be ill, please contact your vet immediately.  No online advice can replace direct veterinary intervention. You are welcome to look for advice in the health forum while waiting for that appointment, but never delay proper veterinary care waiting for Internet advice.

2. Do not provide medical advice. Discussing various options is encouraged and you may share your experience including details about what kind of medication was administered and dosage. However, do not suggest to another member that they should change anything in the course of treatment prescribed by their vet without first consulting with a qualified veterinarian.

Please note that the above rules apply to alternative or natural treatments as well. Supplements and herbal remedies can be very potent and can cause adverse reactions in some cats. You should always consult your vet about any treatment, whether nutritional, natural or alternative and keep in mind they can interact with other treatments your cat receives and cause problems.

@fleet  I know it can be difficult to give cats their medication, but it really is essential that she gets whatever the vet has prescribed. I have several rescued feral cats and giving them pills, liquid meds and eye drops is very difficult, but it simply has to be done.

If you let us know what kind of medication she is on we can make some suggestions about how to administer them.

I know it's not pleasant to have to hunt your cat down and force medication on her, but if the alternative is surrendering her to a shelter it's much better to make sure she gets the treatment she needs.
