Thank you so much for the feeding amount and time.  Our 1 year old kitty had a litter of 5 and they were unable to nurse.   For some reason, they couldnt latch on.  Four of them died the first day.  We are feeding the last kitten every 2 hours.  I sure hope nobody falls asleep on the job!

i feel depressed that I didn't realize they weren't getting any milk yesterday.  When they weren't making noise, and were snuggled up to her, I assumed they were fine.

Four of our kittens passed away yesterday, on their first day of life outside the womb.  Our Kitty has inverted nipples.  Is that why they couldnt latch on? One baby left and we are feeding her in shifts every 2 hours.  We also thought she had more kittens in her cuz she was so still so fat.   Long story short, we went to the vet yesterday.  I dont like money hungry vets.  They don't care about animals at all.  Anyway, any words of wisdom, advice and help of any kind would be very much appreciated.  I may have some questions along the way.  Thank you guys so much.  YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

This site is supposed to go offline for maintenance in about 9 minutes so I don't have a lot of time to speculate on what happened.  I don't think it was starvation that quickly and suspect something else was wrong -- it also sounds like you had a bad vet.  Try finding an AAHA accredited animal hospital near you.  Here is a link, you can enter yuor zip code.

Have you weighed the kitten? Weighing is the best way to know how much to feed and if the kitten is gaining.

In the meantime, what and how much are you giving every 2 hours? Is mom stimulating the kitten to go pee and poop? Are you using a bottle or syringe?

I'm so sorry about the four you lost. That is very sad. What did the vet say?

Kitten milk replacer is best. 1-2 mLs every hour for a newborn. Tummy down, head up, like it feeds from mom. Give 1-2 drops in the side of the mouth, let kitten swallow and breathe, and give more. If mom is not helping, you must stimulate the kitten to go pee and poop using a warm, damp cotton ball on its privates before and after meals for 3 weeks.

Kitten needs a heat source. Heating pad set on low under the blanket, or hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. Kitten cannot regulate its own body temperature for 3 weeks.

Feeding is around the clock and through the night.

If a kitten is a weak suckler, using a needleless syringe or equivalent is somethimes the solution.  This way they dont need to suckle, its enough they can swallow.

Please report - here in this forum and this tread.

Is it possible to post some photos of mom and her nipples so we can see what's going on there?

In the meantime, aupplemental feedings are the way to go.

Does it seem that the babies were full term?

Hi, how are things with the kitten today?

I'm sorry the site went down in the middle of helping you.

We're here if you can give us an update between kitten feedings. I know you've got your hands full!

Were you able to weigh the kitten?
