Hi, I have three six week old kittens and momma kitty which I plan to spay and adopt. I made her anappointment for spay on Friday before Memorial Day so I could help her recovery over long weekend. She's locked in my garage and it's unfair to her. Is it too soon? When I bring her home do her and kittens need to be seperated???

How much is she nursing the kittens? It's usually advisable to wait another two or so weeks for mom's comfort. Is there any way you can move her into the house?

In an emergency I could bring into house, I have two cats of my own tho. The main thing is the timing. I work long hours. I tried to reschedule the spay and they couldn't do it until June 29th, I would have to take off work to watch her after surgery and she would be locked up until then. Is it bad for mommas health?

No, go ahead with the spay Friday. It will be fine. The kittens will be able to be with her and nurse right away when she comes home. Are they in the garage with her now? They should be.

Let us know how it goes.

No, it is not too early to spay, I had a mama who had kittens 21/2 months apart, and THAT was bad for her health, they can get pregnant almost immediately after birth. The kittens are old enough to eat solid food now, mama will start weaning them about this time any way, I would keep them apart for the first day to give her time to recover, (if she seems 'dopey') but if she stresses out to get to the kittens let her go, they can nurse right away if she will let them.  I would not put a cone on her, I've never used one for countless spays and everything always turned out OK. Cats are remarkable on their healing ability, the last little female I had done, was running around like normal within hours, but don't be alarmed if yours sleeps for hours, she went through some major scary times. Bless you for sparing her the rest of her kitten bearing years, it is no fun to be constantly pregnant and being followed by all those rough toms. All the luck!

I would go ahead with the spay. You're fostering the whole family and then going to adopt them out? That's a wonderful thing to do!
