Hi all,
Callie, May, and Lily are our three rescues. Currently, Lily has 6 kittens that are just 6 weeks old. They will be given away (sadly) as I cannot have that many cats. Callie came to us after being abused and discarded by her former home. We didn't look hard for her first family, as you can imagine. She is now a pampered part of our clan, even though she has some pretty odd ticks and habits probably due to the abuse. May came to us in MAY two years ago under 5 pounds, full of worms, fleas, mites, and pregnant. The vet had to abort the litter to save her life. She has megacolon, so we're transitioning to grain free food at present. She did well on low residue food until recently, so we're trying grain free instead. Lily is our newest. Someone dumped her out on our lawn on night when it was supposed to be below zero out. We heard her crying and went out to try to get her. She refused and was super fearful. So....we made her a den in an outbuilding where she was protected from wind and predators and eventually she came to feed at the house. She was clearly pregnant (probably why she was tossed out). She isn't yet a year old (we don't think) and she barely survived having these kittens. She is SO THIN, but is looking better now that the kittens are eating on their own. The vet said we need to watch her (since she can't come in yet.....no shots etc). Once the kittens are weaned, we'll have her fixed and attempt to bring her in. Pray that Callie and May accept her (or at least tolerate her). SO, that's my intro. I just hope folks STOP tossing cats out on my lawn. I just can't keep taking them in.
The sad thing is we have two no-kill shelters in our county with no fee to drop animals off. They could have just as easily dropped them THERE. <steps off soapbox> Hoping for support for the megacolon issues and the introduction of Lily to the family.
