For some unknown reason my uncle really wants to put a flea collar on his cat who is currently treated with revolution. I'm worried about safety but I am having trouble finding out if it's OK to combine them or not.

The active ingredient in revolution is selamectin. The collar is hartz ultra guard plus with active ingredients tetrachlorvinphos and (s)-methoprene.

I personally wouldn't use Hartz products. There have been many reports of ill effects and even death following their use. In fact, I was just reading through hartzvictims.org last night. Scary stuff!

That said, if the Revolution is working (and I'm assuming it is?), I would find it redundant to use any other product. Is it because he's concerned about ticks? I know Revolution is supposed to kill ticks on dogs, but I don't think the cat version does, for some reason.

I spoke with him more and it's because she scratches a lot so he's worried the revolution isn't working. It's totally working and she probably just has dry skin but he's neurotic and won't listen to me! I just don't want to see mama cat become sick from too much insecticide.

Im too worried about this flea collar.   Most arent good - ie they are harmful to the cat.  So even if I havent googled on THIS product, Im worried.

Although I know the big medical producer Bayer has now a serie of flea collars,  Serestro?? - these should be OK, as Bayer doesnt afford bad reputation, and has excellent quality control both in its own factories, and also with their suppliers.

If your uncle wants extra protection than just Revolution, so perhaps he can try with Diacetomeus earth?   DE.  Just make sure its human / food grade.

The DE is a good idea and I actually have some food grade on hand. I'll see if he's responsive to the idea!
