Hello, new to the forum.

I'm going to be moving to a new place and my dad wants me to take my cats with me. I have some concerns about this. I have two indoor tabby cats. They've spent their whole lives at my dads house which is a huuuge three story townhome. They love running up and down the stairs, finding corners to rest in, etc.. There's so much to keep them busy in there and I know that's a good place for them to live especially considering they don't go outdoors. The reason I'm concerned is that they'd be going from spending 8 years in a wonderful place to moving with me to a 600 sq. ft. Studio apartment and I can't imagine they wouldn't be effected by this. Am I wrong? I feel bad for them, what a transition. There literally would be one room for them to spend time in. I don't think my dad thinks in these terms lol so any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. This place is a great resource.  I do not have experience with this issue personally but I do have some ideas that could help you. Hopefully someone else with personal experience with this issue will come in and offer more advice.

If the two cats get along really well and are bonded with you they should adjust.  How old are your cats?  You could look into ways to create more vertical spaces for your cats to have places to explore to help make-up for the limited amount of floor space they would have. Here is link to some ideas to help create spaces for your cats in your new home. If you do some research on catification you may find some things that would be easy for you to do to make the new place work better for all of you.

Cats need room but lucky for you that extra room can be made by going UP. Windows become central for entertainment. Arranging furniture so it create the cat highway all around a room.

I went through a similar situation when I moved away from home. My cat  Tigger would have been around 9 or 10 years old at the time. I felt kind of bad, but my cat didn't really seem traumatized at all. You might be surprised how well they do. I know where you coming from though. I felt really guilty taking my cat away from the only home she knew for her whole life. My cat already knew the roommate I moved in with so that part wasn't a big deal. Like Catlover73 and Kittens Mom said above cat trees and shelves are great. The cat I have now, Bodhi loves his tree and shelves.

Thanks for the answers! Guess they'll be alright. I'll make sure they have plenty of spaces to hang out.
