I just got a new kitten about a week ago, and haven't been financially able to take her to the Vet just yet, but for some reason she just won't stop crying. I try to feed her every 3 hours, I have tried to make her feel as comfortable as possible, considering the fact that I know she is in a new environment. She cries even after she has eaten, she follows me around crying, and when I ignore her because of her constant crying, her cries become more aggressive. She's VERY needy and I am becoming REALLY FRUSTRATED. Please advise...

How old is this kitten?  What are you feeding her every 3 hours? Have you tried getting her to play when she is following you around crying?  A week is not very long for a young kitten to get used to a new living situation.  It is possible she misses her mom and siblings.  Have you tried to pick her up and hold her when she is crying?

If she is really young ignoring her is not going to help at all.  She probably does not understand why you are ignoring her.  Perhaps giving her a stuffed animal to cuddle with would help.

Poor baby kitty. What and how much are you feeding the kitten and how old is she?

Can you carry her around with you? She is needing constant comforting. Probably separated too early from her mother.

The age of the kitten has a lot to do with her adjustment.  Also her adjustment could have been helped if she came with one of her siblings.

Once, my mom once got a little kitten from a pet store who was only 6 weeks old.  She wouldn't let mom out of her site and cried constantly!  Poor baby!  Anyway she ended up taking the little one back to the store to be around the other kittens there.

I agree with the others, she needs your attention right now or perhaps one of her siblings if you can afford to.  She sounds very young.

Thanks for the responses everyone. My kitten is about (4) months old, and I have been feeding her kitten powder formula. I have tried doing everything I can to make her feel more at ease, but nothing seems to help. She cries ALL the time and it seems as if there isn't a moment when she's not crying. I'm hoping she grows out of this because I'm not going to be able to handle the constant whining... Thanks again for the responses.

Are you just feeding her kitten formula? Or kitten food too? Formula is not enough for a kitten of her age and she is hungry!

Also, is she spayed? It's possible that she's in heat, although it would be early.

Yes, I'm only feeding her formula. I think it would too early to feed her any solid cat food...? I don't think she's in heat, she's only a baby kitten...

No, kittens start eating solids about 6 weeks old! She's very hungry!! I would recommend that you pick up some kitten kibble and some kitten wet food immediately. She can have the dry food down all the time and meals of wet food 4 or so times per day. Please act quickly on this.

And cats can go into heat at 4-5 months. She's not really a baby anymore, kind of entering a teen faze.

Where did you get this cat?

Try sitting down on the couch and snuggling her on your chest. Then put your face against her and start humming. My boyfriend does this with our bottle babies when I'm not there and they are crying. They love it. I think the sound and vibration mimic momma purring. Does she purr? How do you comfort her? Stick with it! We will figure something out! Can you upload a picture of the baby?

Yes, she does purr. When trying to comfort her, I pick her up and I put my face against her face and we nose rub with each other. I rub her belly and whisper in her ear. I'm just hoping she grows out of this stage, because she is very needy at this point, which is expected however, she is too much lol. I will upload a pic. of her shortly... Thanks for the feedback, ladies and gents. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Hi - please see my post #10. This is is not a stage. She is starving and trying to tell you that. She will be much better when she is getting a nutritionally complete diet.

She is getting enough food for a cat a quarter of her age right now.

@talking peanut:

The way I came to be her owner is a relatively funny story. She was found in the leasing office where I live by the employees when they arrived at work. Apparently, she some way, some how, she got stuck inside the building and was there overnight until found.I came in the office that day for a spare key to my unit, and ended up taking her back home with me...told you it was a funny story.[emoji]128522[/emoji] Anywho, I will look into getting her some solid food, I really didnt know that cats could go into heat that early! I planned to have her fixed definitely.

That is a funny story!

Will you be able to get food tonight? I'm worried about the little one. They eat and grow so much at this age! Let us know if you'd like suggestions for food brands or other kitten care.

Vets spay and neuter at 2lbs or 2 months. She's definitely eligible. We can also help you find low cost clinics if you'd like!

I will have to get her some first thing in the morning, as I'm not able to get her any at this moment. I welcome any suggestions you may have, especially concerning cat food brands. I will be going out to Walmart or Kroger in the am to get her some food. So, yes, please give me some brand names...thanks!

I had to go back and look at my previous post, but that was a typo, she's about 3-4 weeks old.

Oh my. That's even worse. She's way too young to be without a momma. Poor dear. Is she drinking kitten milk from a dish on her own? She really does need to be near you at all times for her comfort. She may snuggle and sleep with a stuffed animal.

Can she poop and pee on her own? Oh dear. So she does need the formula only for now. Can she lap on her own? She may need bottles.

How much and what kind are you giving her? Photos would help a lot.

How often is she being fed the formula? I am wondering if she just needs to be fed more. You have updated her age to 3-4 weeks old is this correct? If you provide more information about her feeding schedule someone may be able to help you figure out if she is getting fed enough. I unfortunately have never had to feed a kitten formula myself.
