A couple weeks ago i started noticing that my kitten is 'diging' at the ground around his water bowl before he drinks. He stand over the top of the bowl and while looking into the bowl he digs at the ground. What is he doing ?
It's one of two things. The more likely, is leftover wild cat behavior which makes them hide and bury their food from predators.
The other, is the food has gone bad so they are getting rid of it. This can also go for the water bowl too.
I say the first is more common because it's unlikely in modern homes to have food go off, unless it's kept out for many hours.
The other thing is what type of material is the bowl made from? Your kitten may not like it very much. Metal or ceramic is best; plastic can degrade and harbor more bacteria making the water less fresh and desirable to drink.
Yup, agree with what sivyaleah said. My 51/2 month kitten does that too when he does not finish his meal. He'll dig by the side of his ceramic plate as if he is covering up the food and every time he does that it's amusing to watch him do it.
Don't worry, your cat is normal.
Its funny to watch but he never does it with food just his water bowl sivyaleah
his bowl is a ceramic kmart serving bowl my cats love it as its wide and their wiskers dont touch the sides
