I can't believe it's the last full week of May!  That means just 2 weeks of school left for us!

Do you enjoy a good thunderstorm?

I'm currently watching the skies and the radar because it looks like thunderstorms are popping up.  Some thunderstorms can be enjoyable; as long as they don't become severe.  I think I enjoyed them more before computers and electronics became so common.  Lightning can be pretty.  I just don't like when they get severe and then start including tornado watches and that kind of thing!  I'd rather not be driving in one though.  My kids don't usually mind them but DD went through a phase where if one came at night when she was still awake; she'd want to be with me.  That year we seemed to get quite a few not too long after her bedtime.  I wasn't sure how bothered she was of if she just didn't want to be in bed.
Sometimes putting the clock radio on in her room and her small lamp was enough to satisfy her.  Now she says she likes them.
The cats rarely seem phased by storms.  One of my childhood cats would sometimes hide on top of the refrigerator when a thunderstorm would come through.

I have a friend who loves storms a little too much if  you ask me!  I think she should become a trained weather spotter.

I LOVE watching thunderstorms, Everything, the rain, sounds, smells.

I've lived in several houses/apartments through the year that had great views of incoming storms. One of the best was in Florida - my apartment looked over an enormous cow pasture, with no tall buildings blocking the skyline at all.  Saw some incredible ones roll in from there.

But of course not thrilled when it gets dangerous. Once, in same apartment, I got off the bus that took me back and forth to my job, and as I reached my stop, a threatening storm was approaching. I had about 1 mile to walk to my place - surrounded on both sides by same cow pastures.  I saw a small twister forming in the distance half way into the walk, and was utterly terrified it would turn into something worse.  I knew I'd have to wind up face down in a pasture ditch.  Let alone cow poo LOL.

Thankfully it didn't get worse but I would not want to repeat that, ever!

I adore them!  My Daddy saw to that!  Every time there would be a storm, he would take me out on the front porch and sit with me, pointing out the "beautiful" lightning, and how wonderful the thunder sounded.  Thank Goodness.  Mom was reared by her mother and an aunt who made her hide under the bed when it stormed.  I could have so easily fallen into that if not for my wise father!  For years, I lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee, right at the foot of Signal Mountain.  We would get wild thunderstorms, with lightning playing along the ridges and thunder nonstop!  I gloried in them.  I sleep like a rock during driving storms.  I'm respectful of, but do not fear, tornadoes and hurricanes.  I've gone through both, and would prefer not to, but I'm not afraid of them.

It's kind of soothing to watch and listen to
The cats hate really loud thunder.

I love a good storm.. even a hurricane is exciting (Except when trees damage homes or cars). Even when the power goes out for some time is fun.

When there's a good thunder storm, I like to turn out all lights and tv, and just lay on my bed to watch the storm outside. the cats tend to snuggle with me at that point too.

Yes! We quite often get thunder clouds around the top of Fuji in the summer and the lightning looks amazing when it comes down and hits the mountain.

I used to live in Hokkuriku, the North part of Japan. The weather in the winter would blow across the Japan sea from Siberia and we'd get thunder storms and snow at the same time. I always associated thunder with late summer so it was strange to be somewhere that had winter thunder storms.

I feel ALIVE when a big storm moves through, I love thunder and lightening, and especially the rain it brings, but am very respectful of them when they bring hail or twisters I love to even watch tornadoes from a distance and knowing they are moving away from me, I've seen two or three now and the power they give off is tremendous! When my cats were kittens I would hold them during a storm and tell them how cool this all was, and none of them are afraid of storms now, they just don't like the rain on their fur and come running for the house!

I dearly love thunderstorms; they don't bother me at all. My mom used to tell people that, when I was little, I'd stand at the window during a t-storm and clap my hands, yelling "Fireworks! Look! Fireworks!" When our son still lived at home, he and I would get up in the middle of the night and watch the t-storms rumble by. We'd sit in the living room, watch the lightning, listen to the thunder and talk. About anything. About nothing. Just talk.

I don't like the tornadoes and will keep a close eye on the sky. We have the cages downstairs in the basement, so that if we have to start grabbing cats, we can do it. More than once I have sat in the basement with the cats in their cages while Rick was pacing about upstairs and outside during a tornado watch when we didn't like the color of the sky or we got leery of the way the wind quieted down suddenly.

Our son will call sometimes and say, "Mom, tornado watch up there! Get the cats ready! Love you!" Especially when I'm home alone. And then he'll stay in contact with me until we know everything is OK. He left work one afternoon and started for home because it was really nasty out and he knew I was alone with the cats. But I was fine and made him turn around.

We never got our storm yesterday. We heard one good rumble but it moved around us.  DH said it was muggy out.

When I was a kid my Grandpa and I would sit out back on the covered patio at his house and watch the rain or storms.  We didn't seem to get as many up there.  Once we had some quarter size hail come through with a storm.  That was so exciting to me.
Not to all the car dealerships!  A couple miles away my cousin had to run out and try to catch some.  He looked up and received a black eye for his efforts.

We put some in the freezer to look at in the summer.  I think that was the largest hail I've ever seen.  And I'm ok with that!

I don't like the tornadic storms either. Basements are not common around here so we are pretty much limited to our master closet for shelter.  it doesn't even lock.  We have gone in there a few times with the girls in their kennels.  It was just about a year ago my phone went off in my pocket while we were checking out at the grocery store.  Once I got us in the car I saw it was an actual tornado warning.  We raced home watching the sky and it was pretty ugly but still off in the distance.  It turned out the tornado was pretty far from us; but we'd been included in the warning somehow.  When we get them here; they are smaller ones. But still!  It destroyed one or two homes and damaged a few others.  It did graze my mother's good friends farm.  It took the tops off her green houses but fortunately didn't damage the barns or house.  My mother rushed over to help afterward and she said you could see the damage in the treetops.

If we ever get the addition I want put on this house; it will have a covered patio for me to sit and watch the weather.

love storms. The cats don't mind. One summer we had an earthquake-I felt a rumble just when all three cats lifted their heads up to look around-they must have heard it before the bang-after that the bang noise-it was a mild one-4.5 I think? but was strange that all three cats woke from sleeping to look around spooked before we heard the rumble and bang.

Thunderstorms don't bother them-they sleep right through it. Lightening usually wakes me before the boom does.

As a kid my dad used to have me stand on the porch and we would watch the thunderstorms. I always enjoy a good storm as long as nothing gets destroyed.

You know, although I love storms of all sorts, Hekitty says to tell you all that she does not not not approve of lightflashies or rumblegrumbles or windblowies.  A nice, gentle rain that brings out the worms, and therefore the birds, is appreciated.

...with the cats...
yes! i enjoy watching the gusty winds blow the trees and such, listening to the rain on my roof, watching the lightening, and listening to the thunder.

i've never experienced a tornado or hurricane, and am fine without it. i have been through earthquakes, both when i lived in Los Angeles and one here in New York State -- i don't feel the need to experience another one.

As a child I was terrified of thunder storms and got into bed with my parents until I was about 10 or so when I slept through one and was woken by my mum bursting into my bedroom to see if I was ok. I was still edgy about lightening until my ex made me stand and watch a lightening storm. Now I like them. Blighty hides behind the settee that he his behind when he first arrived as a baby nearly 3 years ago.
Whisky's not so scared unless there's an extra loud boom.
