New kitten sort of worrying me?

Hi all,

I just recently got a new Seal Point Lynx Balinese kitten (yes I know that's a mouthful haha) and he's amazing. He's clearly a very shy boy and likes hiding behind things in the bathroom he's been staying in the past couple of days (just picked him up on Saturday night). It's taking him a bit to adjust, but I've been cuddling with him and we've made a lot of progress just within these 2 days. He's already napped on me for 2 hours and stretched out on me, licked me, rubbed himself all over me, and he even started purring for the first time tonight. However, I got pretty frazzled when I couldn't calm him down tonight. Usually he'll just sit still and I'll set him in his bed and he'll just lay down. But tonight, I heard him crying in his bed and picked him up. He kept trying to leave my lap so I assumed he might want to go to the bathroom. Set him in his litterbox and it didn't work. So I picked him back up and held him. He kept trying to leave my lap so I finally let him, and he got on the ground and started crying again. I picked him up yet again and brought him to the actual bathroom to set him by his food and water to see if that's what he wanted. Nope. He started crying again and looking up as if he wanted to jump onto the counter. Set him on the counter, nope. He also tends to shake during these crying/meowing episodes and it makes me even more nervous. He's used his litterbox since he's come home, but I personally haven't seen him eat or drink. He's about nearly 6 months old I believe since he was born in December.

This isn't my first cat, but he is my first kitten. I lost my first cat (and my first pet -- I had her since 2008) back in September of last year so I've taken care of a cat before. But my girl cat was already nearly a year old (if not already a year) by the time we got her, and she was obviously very different from him. I just want to make sure I'm doing everything to the best of my ability to comfort him and help him out. I can't constantly hold him when he cries -- especially since I'm posting this at 4 am and this started between 2-3 am and I gotta sleep -- especially if when I set him down he'll just start to shake and cry. I don't know if it's because it's late and he's suddenly awake or something (he has pretty much been in his bed most of the day) or what. I was googling and most of the results said that it's most likely because he misses his mother and/or his siblings and that makes me feel even worse. :( I don't have any other cats and I have two dogs but I have NOT introduced them and probably won't for another week or so and they have gone nowhere near him. I would've gotten another cat but he already cost me $800 (but he's well worth it) and I cannot take care of two cats right now. I just don't want him to feel so sad and lonely... it hurts me to hear him cry.

Sorry if this is really long and/or rambly, but to me my pets are my family and they're my world. If any of them cries or yelps or seems at all in distress, I'm gonna worry a lot. Any advice would be helpful, but please don't say "go to the vet" as I just got him and the person I got him from has been giving him all the necessary shots you can name since he was a baby and gives him meds to strengthen his immune system since he was a baby kitten. And yes, I totally plan to neuter him after he gets more comfortable with me.

Thank you in advance for any help/advice offered.

Okay update.. Found out part of the reason why he's crying when I set him down (but not the shaking and crying from earlier). He wants my attention and literally walks in front of me and cries and rubs all over my legs and against my hand if I lean down. I kid you not, I put this cute little kitty in his bed and before I could even open the bathroom door to leave, he was back in front of me with a cry here and there rubbing up against me. I literally had to resort to putting him far back in his bed and running out the door quick to make sure he didn't get out. Have we already bonded and part of the reason he's crying is because he doesn't want me to go? I'm the only one that has been around him (thus far) and I'm trying to keep it that way until I know he's comfortable and adjusted, but if he's crying while I'm asleep I sort of want my mom to comfort him since she'll be awake. Just some thoughts I had after dealing with the affectionate cutie. I'm so tired though I've been dealing with him for the past 3+ hours and it's 6 am and I need sleep haha

Don't forget he's just a baby, and he's away from his mom and brothers and sisters for the very first time, and he's in a brand new place.  He may be crying for his cat family, and he's going to switch that attachment to you, and hopefully to your mom also, because Siamese/Balinese are very attached to their humans once they have bonded.  Since you are the only one he knows now, he is probably feeling very insecure and wants to keep track of your every movement.  Go ahead and let him meet your mom, and anyone else in the family, and maybe have some friends come and visit also.  He will be fine in a couple of weeks but he's just a baby who has lost everything he ever knew, and he is clinging to you like you would cling to someone if you were taken away from your home and family and had nobody else.  Love him, carry him around with you, don't shut him away from you, or else let him be with your mom when he can't be with you, and all will be well soon. I remember when I got my first Siamese kitten.  My husband and I set her up a wonderful room with her bed and litter box and food in the laundry room but she would have none of it.  She cried and cried and cried until we took her into our bed, and she slept in our bed the rest of her life.  Most Siamese types do not want to be alone, so let your baby sleep with you and probably that will make her feel secure.
