Freedom of Speech or Infringment?

Interesting story here. Apparently, the pilot on an airplane asked the passengers to raise their hands if they were Christian and that those who aren't are "crazy". Then said for the Christians to use the time on the plane to talk about their faith and "use the time wisely."

As a non-Christian, this is very disturbing to me. I would have been furious on that plane!

American Airlines has said they will investigate the matter and if it is true, that it is "against their policy."

I would be furious as well - that was inappropriate. It is also wrong because he is only focused on one religion - what about the other religions. Does he mean that if you are Jewish, Muslim, or Mormon that you are crazy? Not right.

I would also be furious as well. We are jewish, and that I find it offensive.

Definitely not right.

I would have been outraged. "Freedom of speech" doesn't mean you can infringe upon others'"freedom of religion", which I've always understood to mean tolerance of others' beliefs.

Holy cow! (no pun intended) That is so incredibly insensitive, bigoted, and just plain wrong. I hope he gets fired!

Also, anyone who shows such poor judgement probably doesn't have the cognitive wherewithal to handle dangerous situations while flying. I wouldn't feel safe with such an idiot at the controls!

Shocking!. Peoples religious beliefs should be personal and private!.

Definitely insensitive. Having read the article, I think I would have been afraid of something happening, a hijacking or something wrong with the plane.

The pilot has apologized, and is being punished. He said he was just driven to witness at the time.

There is a religion in the US...I'm not going to say which but they are Christians...that believes that if you are not a member of that religion, you will not go to heaven. It is the duty of every member to go out into the world to teach and preach to every non-member so they will convert and see the truth. I have had several heated "discussions" with friends because I don't belong to this religion. Even worse in their eyes, I don't believe in organized religion. (Please don't flame me. Its a personal belief that I do not try to impose on others)

He chose a very bad place to express his viewpoint.

If I was on that plane I would have been so upset, I have no religion or many beliefs for that matter, but that doesn't make me say rude stuff about anyone who is religous, no matter what religion that happens to be. It doesn't make the person bad, they are all people who could be the same, or different then me.It doesn't matter what you believe in, just that you don't try to push it on others or condemn them because they practice something else.

That's really terrible! I would have been horribly offended. I believe that everyone is entitled to believe whatever they want, just don't try to push it on me. I would have been furious if I was on that plane!

I am a christian...but this way of witnessing was way wrong!!
Why in the world would he even think anyone would listen after he called them crazy...????
There are ways to witness without shoving it in peoples faces ...like your actions for example
anyway i do beleive his intentions were in the right place...he just went about it all wrong

I just heard some new info on this. Apparantly the pilot had just returned from a mission trip to South America. The amount of time he was there ranges from 1 week to 4 weeks. He says God told him to continue the mission on his flight home. He spent most of the flight preaching over the intercom. The "crazy" quote is just one of many

I think that some people attribute a lot of power to the idea of "god" talking to them, when really, they are just hearing voices in their head. They need to discriminate more, in decided if that is really God's voice.

I am a Christian, I would have been at the head of the line complaining, and demanding that man be removed from his job. I believe that witnessing is in the way you live your life, not using an intercom to lecture a captive audience.
