I am very new to having our own cats. We live on a farm now and our two females (sisters and almost 1 yr old, Grey and Snowball), both had litters. One litter (Grey's) are 19 days old and the other (Snowball's)are 16 days old. Both mommas have their kittens in an old dog house. They both care for all 9 kittens. Friday Snowball brought one of her kittens to our door. She just did the same thing with one of Grey's kittens. When she did she was acting very strange, and I'm not sure, but she looked like she was trying to put the kitten's head in her mouth. The kitten wasn't acting like Snowball was hurting it. Anyone know why a momma would do that? I understand they will kill one if it's sick, but both kittens have seemed healthy. But why bring the kitten to the door? Also, how long should we refrain from handling the kittens? Most have their eyes open now.

It is common for moms to move kittens about that age for increased socialization. She wants you to get to know them! I would guess that mom was just trying to carry them and did so a but sloppily. Can you help her move the rest?

Is there any way you can get moms and babies inside? The moms can already get pregnant again, and it's really hard on their bodies.

I'm not sure she's sloppy at moving them. She got the kitten to the door just fine. It was after she set it down; and she crouched down right against the door that she started opening her mouth and putting it on the kitten's head, not neck.I watched her do this a couple of times, just trying to figure out what was happening.
I let her in to get her away from the kitten. When she came in she was making a similar, almost moaning sound, that she was making right before she birthed the first of her kitten. The other thing is it's not the same kitten each time.

You need to bring the mom cats and all the kittens inside your home. That's what mom is trying to do. She wants to bring them to you to help with caring for them. They will begin weaning soon and she knows you will feed them. My mama cat brought all her babies to me around 3 weeks old.

You need to let them inside. It's not safe outside for the kittens anymore.
