My blue- white cat, 16 month old Sukie, has developed a remarkable addiction to newspaper! You only have to place a sheet of newspaper on the floor for her to stop whatever she is doing and sit on it. Now that Australia is entering Autumn, we sit in the Drawing-Room with the fire on and Sukie between us on a sheet of the ‘Australian’.

When she is fully relaxed, and gently nibbling a corner of the paper, we can then watch television. She prefers the Children’s section of TV but has to give in to our adult taste and she is bored by this and goes to sleep.

I am currently in her bad books because I pulled her out of the paper cupboard where she wanted to spend the night; when I try to talk to her now she responds by a series of squeaks (she cannot meow, only produces a sound like a squeaking door) and tries to bite me, albeit without breaking my skin. It will last for about another hour but she will forget when it is time for Last Meal of the Night!

It is now 10.30 and Sukie, who has almost forgiven me, is settling down for the night on a sheet of newspaper on the kitchen table.

I have never seen a cat desiring to lie on newspaper so much before, has any one else had the same experience?

Our cat Ozzy is a paper-sitter but he's not particular about what kind, any piece of paper will do.
