Black Kitty Meowing at Night

We have now had Prince, formerly known as Black Kitty, inside for about 10 weeks. He is so affectionate at times, almost desperate for petting and being close. He is now starting to meow in the middle of the night. When I go to check on him, he evades me. After morning feeding, he's the sweet boy again. Do you think he's dreaming of the hard life he once had, hungry, in pain or bored? We are trying to get him to explore the house now, sequestering the resident female cat, but he's only going out into the hallway thus far.

SO many people start threads about cats meowing in the middle of the night.. normally because it drives them spare.

He seems to be settling in really well, all tings considered. 

Thanks Mani. I guess we are fortunate that the meowing if the only problem. We tried feeding him just before our bedtime last night and the resulting food coma worked well until about 3:00 am. But the meowing was short lived and no more followed after a couple of minutes. Prince seems slow in confidence building in some ways but fast in accepting us as his owners.

After extensive investigation via Internet, I tried putting small amounts of dry food in 5 small ramekins and sort of hid them in accessible places in the two bedrooms Prince stays in just before going to bed. Voila! He's been quiet as a mouse for the last two nights since I started this!!!
