Anyone else ever wonder about past or missing TCS members?

I was looking through some threads and saw so many names of members who haven't posted for many months or years.  I always find myself wondering what happened and why they stopped posting. I wonder how they're doing and how their cats are doing.

I sometimes find myself getting misty-eyed when I read their old posts or see pictures of their cats.

Same here.  There's one person in particular who was very helpful to me when I first found TCS and had been an extremely active member.

Yeah, back maybe about 10 years ago or so, I was on a forum where someone passed away, and her sister happened to be on the forum as well and let us know. And of course it made me wonder about all the oodles of people that just seemed to disappear then too.

There are some folks I wonder about to this day, and that forum hasn't existed for at least five years now.

We've had a few members here pass away :(

I've wondered where several people went and how they're doing.
Maybe we should start a thread about missing members.  People can add the names of members they are wondering about, and anyone with updates or information can post them.

What do you think?

If they aren't reading the thread, they won't see it. There will only be a response if someone knows them from somewhere else.

My guess is that people stop reading the site because they get tired of answering the same questions over and over. Look at all the ones now about cats going into labor. Then there are those with seriously ill cats. I would love to help them, but lack the medical expertise to do so.

I think a new thread with list of names of who we are wondering about is a good idea.

Does anyone remember the elderly kitty that a young man took in last Christmas? I haven't seen him around. Oscar was the cat. He tried his best to keep him going but poor Oscar was too far gone. I cried for days for both human and cat.

The idea of a "missing member" thread is to garner information from other members who may be in contact with them, or see them around at other places, not necessarily from the member themselves.  Sort of a wellness check.  :)

And if a missing member just happens to login and see the thread and their name in it, they'll know that they've been missed and might post their own update.

Lots of first time posters come here when they lose a pet or are seeking support for a medical or behavior condition. Once that's resolved they seem to vanish. I enjoy this community because it is so well moderated , crazy cat people and the high information moderators and advisors that are here. I live fairly isolated. So some online socializing is something I look forward to.

I don't think I'll ever forget that guy and his Oscar. I was just thinking about them the other day. I remember another guy who was here with his kitty that had cancer and was in acute renal failure. That thread was, for the most part I think, him and me. Shortly after he put his baby to sleep, he posted to say he'd gotten the urn and posted it; I think that was the last I saw of him. I'm on a CKD group on FB, and so many of those folks leave after they lose their babies with CKD. I'll admit it's been a bit more difficult to stick around since Sara died.

But yeah, quite a few of the folks that left after their kitties died, I've often wondered about. Apparently Oscar struck a chord with a lot of us in particular, though.

Sometimes a past member will post during the holidays just to let people know they are okay.  I remember a lady who used to breed traditional Siamese did that this past December.  I loved her stories about her Siamese.  I remember she had one that had what she called a lazy eye rather than crossed eyes that was a real character.

Why don't you try listing them with the @ symbol? That way they will get an email.
I didn't know that.  Thanks.

EDIT:  I just did that in my other thread about "Missing TCS Members"  and it worked for some, but not for some others.   Anyway, I hope they see the emails and know that we are thinking about them.

Oscar hit a cord with me. How horrible it was that he didn't stay with his young man. I don't know why but that little kitty struck a cord. I had a friend put him on the weekly candle lighting she does on Monday nights. On Facebook. I only hope the young man adopted another kitty. He had more patience than anyone I know when it comes to older kitties. And he tried to give him a decent life. Oscar will always live on in my heart.
