Dark spot on lip and missing front teeth?

We've had Leo for a little over a year now, he's about a year and a half old. He's had this black spot on his lip for as long as we can remember and the vet didn't say anything about it when he had his first check up so I've been assuming it is nothing. I recently just took a look at his teeth and to my surprise he no longer has his front teeth. His breath is also the worst out of our three cats. Wondering if these are all connected or just coincidences?

Hi @Colsen Kalista  Welcome to TCS.

It's common for black and white cats to have black patches inside their mouths. As long as the patch is flat against his skin, hasn't changed size or shape and doesn't bleed or look inflamed there is no need to worry about it.

The missing teeth and the bad breath are more worrying. This could be a sign of gum disease or digestive problems. Gingivitis and stomatitis are both common in cats.

I think you need to get Leo to the vet for a dental. The gum around his top two fangs looks quite inflamed, it must be painful for him.

Thank you for your response! Going to have to make a trip to the vet, don't want to have any cats in pain! So far he hasn't shown any signs of pain but wouldn't want it to get to that point!

You're welcome.

Please let us know how he gets on at the vets. And stick around so we can get to know you and Leo better too.

Here's a thread you might be interested in.

It's hard to tell from you picture . . . is there a raised, pimple-like spot on her gums?  If so, I would think that would require immediate vet attention.  If it isn't raised then I wouldn't be too concerned,.  My female tuxedo Thirteen has dark spots on the roof of her mouth and her gums.

You really should be brushing your cat's teeth.  I brush my two cats' teeth every night and it's remarkably easy.  I've been doing it since they were kittens.  I wouldn't go so  far as to say that they love it, but they certainly tolerate it.  You can pick up a cat toothbrush and toothpaste at Petco for under ten bucks.  My vet claims it's the one of the most important things I can do for my cats.

I completely agree with Norachan about getting your boy to the vet.  He's way too young to have missing teeth!

Let us know what the vet says and GOOD LUCK!
