Unfortunately my cats had the misfortune of catching Feline Cat herpes at a very early age,  in itself very treatable and I'm

glad to say a combination of two treatments has helped to keep it in line.

When they first contracted this virus,  the main symptom was a type of conjunctives, very unpleasant, and a couple of them

got very red and swollen,  sticky eyes,  it was awful, especially as it developed literally over night, so straight away i got on

my PC to look this up and possibly find a treatment that'll work.....Tea for the eyes,  apparently it's the Tannin that tea contains,

it kills viruses and bacteria, amazing stuff, and it was suggested i tried Enisyl-F oral paste.

so, that afternoon i was feeding doses of the paste to the kittens, then gently flushing their eyes out with a very strong brew and

a cotton wool ball...within two days all symptoms had gone.

Anyway three years later,  i received a kitten with the same problem,  so out the tea has come....but whilst about to order more oral

medication,  i was presented with two different types.....the normal one i'd used before Enisyl-F, but now also one called L-lysine Aid

Cat Gel,  one more expensive than the other,

now the price isn't a problem,  but does this comparison mean than one is a better product than the other....???

If anybody knows, I'd love to hear your thoughts.  For now, I'll stick with what i know to work, but it would be nice to know, if there is

any difference between these two.

Enisyl-F is just Lysine spelled backwards.  We gave that to our kitty when she first came home with us.  I don't have experience with the other medication.  If you can find plain Lysine in powder or capsule form, you can use that as well.

You can also try Purina Fortiflora. Some vets are prescribing it rather than the Enisyl-F for upper respiratory infections. Viralys is lysine in powder form. There are also chews -can't remember the name but they are in an orange package. Viralys and the chews are from the vet.

FortiFllora is a probiotic and nutrtional supplement. I'm not sure how it will help with a respiratory infection, if at all.

@MSmith71 have you asked a vet about treatments for the kittens? There is a lot of bad / harmful information out in the Internet posted by all sorts of people, some with good intentions and some with bad intentions, so I'd be very cautious in trying anything without runing it by a vet first.

oh my word..i had never realised that,  a clever little trick no doubt from the manufacturers,....ive sent off for the Lysine Aid Gel, which is apparently salmon tasting,  so we'll see how it goes...thanks for answering my question, this makes me feel a little more comfortable now.

yes,, they suggested Enisyl-F plus antibiotics for the eyes,  but were fine with me using the tea option, as this is apparently another proven to work home-remedy.

Yes I know Fortiflora is a probiotic which helps the gut with digestion. However, a great deal of one's immunity is from the gut. Some vets have prescribed Fortiflora instead of Enisyl-F for upper respiratory infections because they got better results.
