I have 2 cats one 10 this year and the other is 7. Ive had them both since they were kittens and never have i had a problem with them peeing outside the litter box. Ive been with my bf 2 years now and they keep peeing on his clothing or shoes. Pretty much anything of his but nothing of mine. I really need help. Its come to a point where he wants to get rid of them but they are too important to me. Ive tried changing litter 4 times but that hasnt worked. I dont hit them when they do it but my bf does. Im really out of options

Can you get rid of the boyfriend rather than the cats?  (Just kidding!
)

This TCS article might help: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/combat-cat-urine

What litter are you using?  When we had issues with Coco urinating on our carpet, we had great success with Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter.  Also, what does your litter box setup look like?  How many boxes do you have, and where are they located?

Please ask your boyfriend to stop hitting your cats.  It's probably making the situation worse.

Im not one for giving popular answers to questions but, i am a reality based person.
What are the chances he is mistreating them when youre not home?

I know of this from others. Theyve been around longer than him. You know them better. If they never did this to anyone else i would be suspicious!

Try and figure that out first. You cant sell your pets out for something you dont have answers for!!!

We have 3 litter trays one for each cat as he has his own kitten. They are filled with recycled paper litter. We tried crystal litter but it was way to messy. Ive tried to make him understand that they dont have the same logic as us and punishment wont work but he is stubborn

i would never ever stay with someone who would abuse animals. the solution to your problem is very easy --get rid of the jerk! the cats are telling you something and you are not listening! try hiding a camera and see what you see..

Honey, "smacking" anyone IS abusive. And you are fooling yourself if you think it doesn't hurt them.
Besides all that....cats are not kids. They are much smaller, and what might be a pat on the butt to a child...it just isn't the same with a cat. NO ONE should be hitting the cats. It's not "punishment" it's abuse.

@maddyrah  him smacking the cats is actually making the problem a lot worse. Cats don't understand discipline at all, he's just making them stressed which gives them more reason to "claim" his belongings when he comes into their home by marking them. Please ask your boyfriend to read this.

 [article="29678"]Cats And Discipline Dont Mix[/article]

 [article="32366"]How To Solve Litterbox Problems In Cats The Ultimate Guide[/article]

The first thing I would do is take both cats to the vet to make sure they're not peeing out of the litter box because of bladder problems. Ask your boyfriend to pick up his stuff and put it away. If a cat can smell something that doesn't belong in their home they will pee on it to claim it. Dirty clothes on the floor is just asking for trouble. How is his relationship with the cats otherwise? Do they seem nervous around him? If you could get him to play with your cats and offer them treats it will help the situation a lot.

Can you try a clay litter?  Some cats can be picky about litter, and clay is generally a safe choice.  Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter is one such litter, and it's also designed to encourage cats to use the box rather than eliminating elsewhere.

I'm sure your boyfriend is not trying to be abusive toward your kitties, but please ask him to stop smacking the cats, no matter how lightly he may be doing it.  It can only make the problem worse.

Im happy to say that i sent your post to him and he is willing to give it a go [emoji]128522[/emoji] as to your questions
They are a bit scared of him but sometimes theyll be very outgoing and come get pats from him. Ill definitely take them to the vet as im moving towns so theyll have to go anyway and ill make sure the vet checks for anything.

But as far as him picking his clothes up that mught take some work. He says its his house he should be able to leave thing where he wants -.-

Yeah, my husband had the same idea but the cats and I soon put a stop to that. They can be very helpful when it comes to getting your man trained.

My younger daughter told me about a friend of hers who had a problem when her boy friend took a stray cat in his car and dropped him off a kilometre away,  The friend demanded that he search the area where he had dropped off the cat and find him.  He did and brought the cat back.  She then adopted the cat and her boy friend got the boot!

I would hope so! Cats are such beautiful creatures and deserve to be treated as such ^.^
